In Thunder Alley, stock car enthusiasts Francie and Tommy (Funicello and Fabian) shift their romance into high gear when they race to find a cure for Tommy's blackouts.

Back To The Beach
DVD/ Color/ 92 Mins./ PG/ 1987
Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello relive the glory days of their beach blanket bonanzas in this 1987 comedy. Playing a husband and wife who are visiting their daughter in Southern California, the two prove to still have a little bit of "fun in the sun" left in them, joining their daughter on the shores for a party to remember. Features cameos from David Bowie, Pee-Wee Herman and more.

An updated parody and a fitting finale to my week-long beach movie exploration. 20 years later and both Annette Funicello and Connie Stevens look absolutely stunning. Cameos also included Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Don Adams, Barbera Billingsly, Tony Dow (and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver), Stevie Ray Vaughan and a surprising musical appearance with Annette Funicello performing with the ska-band Fishbone.

Hancock, Attack of the Clones. Thinking of catching Doubt tomorrow and perhaps the fabled watchmen... I guess it depends on when I wake up and how the day is looking.

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY
DVD/ Color/ 95 Mins./ UR/ 2000
Catch a wave and a psychotic seaside killer in this comedy-horror spoof on the popular beach party movies of the 1960s. Lauren Ambrose stars as Florence, a schizophrenic surfer chick, and her alter ego, Ann, a promiscuous partier with a violent streak and a mouth like a truck driver. When a rash of sun-drenched murders occurs, "both" women become prime suspects, along with a surfing guru, a B-movie actress and a Swedish exchange student.

..and that concludes my beach movie viewing for the year.

Elvis Presley is Rick Richards, a helicopter pilot who dreams of setting up a charter flying service in Hawaii. Along the way, he makes some friends -- including a young Hawaiian girl and her father -- romances Judy Hudson and sings a few songs. Nine Elvis tunes, including "This Is My Heaven" and "Stop Where You Are," make up a pleasant soundtrack.

Funny Girl

Director William Wyler's musical tells the story of legendary Ziegfeld Follies comedienne Fanny Brice (Barbra Streisand), who grew up in the Jewish slums of New York dreaming of stardom. When Brice finally fulfills her dream and becomes the toast of Broadway, the resentful reaction of her husband (Omar Shariff) threatens to destroy their marriage. The film received eight Academy Award nominations and earned Streisand the Oscar for Best Actress.

Since mrscardero may not find her way to this thread, I will post for her that she too saw Watchmen (and enjoyed it).

My screening was to be last night but now has been pushed up to March 17. I am a bit sorry that I could not watch this movie with mrscardero but she had a better opportunity to see it and since our working schedules do not conincide, our only other chance to see it together would had been when the DVD of the movie is to be released in September 2009 .

High Plains Drifter
DVD/ Color/ 105 Mins./ R/ 1973
Amid shoot-outs and existentialism, a mysterious stranger (Clint Eastwood, who also directs) is hired to protect a small town from outlaws. But his recipe for defense could be a deal with the devil, and soon, even the enigmatic gunslinger's supporters -- including Mordecai (Billy Curtis) and Sarah (Verna Bloom) -- are wondering just what they've signed up for. The rip-roaring conclusion could leave the town in tatters.

Social worker Ann Gentry (Anjanette Comer) visits her latest assignment, the Wadsworth clan, consisting of a boozy, suffocating matriarch (Ruth Roman); her two demented daughters (Suzanne Zenor and Marianna Hill); and Baby, her 21-year-old son who's being kept in an infantile state, complete with crib and diapers. Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
DVD/ Color/ 119 Mins./ UR/ 2008
javascript:void(0)Always willing to hurl himself right in the middle of the action, journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson was fearless as well as reckless. This documentary looks beyond his wild antics to focus on the courage and principles that made him a success. Rare home movies, audiotapes and unpublished materials offer added insight into this complex man, who was well-known for his fondness for sex, drugs and alcohol.
