Mr Trump has questioned Ms Harris's racial identity.

But do you fake an accent?
In a way, yes. At work (my job specifically at the plasma center), it's universal we all use a voice that is much softer and lighter with donors than we do with eachother. Even the almost 6 foot white guy is this way. We aren't trained or schooled to do it, it just happens.
I also lost my rural Hoosier accent through deliberate and conscious effort (and while I still lived in Indiana). Not exaxtly faking it, but the way I talk now isn't the "natural by birth and upbringing" way I used to talk like.

OK I'll fake an accent some time and see how that goes over.
I haven't done it in a long time but I used to have a faily convincing (at least to most Americans) Irish and Scottish accent. One day I was with a friend who does a good English accent.
We had people in Ball State thinking we were from Europe.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Thats pretty funny but I'm not that good. I can't even fake a non Texan accent here in Ohio! I just talk and don't worry about it.

TRUE STORY TIME!

A coworker and I traveled all over the US training new offices as they were opening up. I remember going to Minnesota and the people there saying, "We don't know exactly what you're saying, but keep talking because we love your accents!" I could understand them but they did sound a little bit funny to me. I am a former military brat, so maybe that helped, I don't know.

Who are Kamala Harris’ parents? What to know about Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris

Above is a link to some of Harris's memoirs, about her childhood and upbringing. She was very close to her Indian Relatives, with her mother raising her and her sister, as a single mom, after her mother and father separated and divorced. Her mother had to two loves, which was her two daughters and her breast cancer research. Both daughters were given Indian names. Her father although separated continued to be part of her life.

I can't help but suspect that there is projection at work here.

People are multifaceted. It is at least ridiculous to treat anyone as if they had some sort of moral duty to... not be.

In this case, unfortunately, the situation is depressingly clear. Trump is desperate for any pretexts to attempt to demoralize Kamala and ... and there are plenty of people who will eat anything that he says and do their best to convince themselves that those will be words of "wisdom" or somesuch.

It is not a good look for the people of the USA.

OK.

I feel like it's duplicitous but maybe you don't. To me, it's indicative of a deeper problem.

More duplicitous than molesting and raping women? I mean... Whatever problems she has have to be judged against the things Trump has done. Those are the standards we are dealing with

You may be dealing with them but I'm not. I don't live in a swing state so I have the luxury of writing in a candidate and that's what I am going to do. I'm not voting for Trump OR Harris.

Has Kamala refuted Orange man, or has she done nothing more than get triggered by what he's claiming about her?

Can you guess where this picture came from?

Trump Doubles Down on “Kamala Isn’t Black” Argument With New Photo

That's right. Trump posted it in his Truth Social platform. Just as even some Republicans were distancing themselves from Trump's racist attack on Kamala Harris's identification with her African heritage, his proxies are busy in social media carrying the talking point forward. This is truly a disgusting tactic, but it is more than likely to backfire. Not only does it insult and alienate blacks, but it is also highly insulting to Indian Americans, who would be more likely to vote for Trump in greater numbers than blacks.

Nevertheless, the tactic can play well with some of Trump's base voters, because it feeds the familiar tactic of turning an opponent's strength into a perceived weakness. So they will start shamelessly promoting the meme in social media that she is some kind of a racial poser, or, as one person put it in this forum, a "race chameleon".
