Dear people...

I want to know why Islam forbids(Haraam) Music,Singing and Dancing?...
Especially Women are'nt allowed-why?...

I was born into a Muslim household but i am a Spritualist,a Mystic,an Ascetic and a Divine Lover-to me Music,Singing and Dancing is a way to reach/attain God...

To me Music,Singing and Dancing is spiritual and a means to Love Allah(God)...

I hope i might get some good answers :) xxx

music is forbidden because of the environment that follows music such as drinking , and men and lady's dancing together

any act either make you closer to God or away from God. so if dancing would make you closer to God, then dance. there is this English ballet dancer who convert to Islam and she says she found God through dancing. i believe her.

but if dancing was supposed to lead you to commit sin, then don't dance. it is your personal choice after all. i listen to music and probably most of people i know would not listen to what i like. everyone has different taste. i never heard of music and dancing is forbidden in Islam. as long as it is done without crossing lines that God drew, there is nothing wrong in it. this English lady i told you about still dances but now she does not dance in front of stranger males, she wears modest, she does not wear classic ballet clothes which shows her body, because that would be against Islam. but she dances because she loves dancing because she feels the divine as she does. i think it is beautiful. same with any kind of art. your art could even make people closer to God or other way around. intention matters my friend. so don't listen people who hates people and creation of God

Isn't music used in worship? That seems so strange to me because music is such a significant aspect of prayer and devotion to God in my religion.
Is specific music banned or all music of any kind?
I know that Cat Stevens stopped singing or playing instruments for a long time when he became Muslim for this reason.
To me, music is like proof of God. It is truly beautiful.

Dear Lava :)...

I agree with you in many ways :)...

I practice Kathak(one of the North Indian Classical Dance form originated with the Courtesams(not Prostitues)) from childhood...the Raags, the Raaginis the Raag Putras cast a spiritual spell on me to reach to Allah(God)...

But this very link(Kathak and the Raags) of mine has been called disbelief and blasphemy by the majority of the Muslims...and to be honest it hurts...

I feel Music,Singing and Dancing is a beautiful piece of Art to express your Divine Love for the Lord :)...

Is religious music forbidden- like songs praising the God?

Regards,

Dear Satsangi :)...

I dont know of what Islam says about Devotional songs...but i am sure when we(Spiritualists,Asectics,Msytics,Sufis and Divine Lovers) sing songs of praise to God(Arabic:Hamdh),sing songs of praise to Hazarth Muhammad(SAW) (Arabic:Naath) and sing songs of praise to Saints and Gurus(Arabic:Munkabaath) is accompanied by Music,Singing and Dance(depends)...

These Devotional songs of praise are accompanied by instruments...

But once again,i do not know what Islam says of Devotional songs :(...

Hi Zoya,

My Dharma does not say that to women, Zoya.....(as a part of devotion they can do that). As for what I follow...... I do believe that chances of "mishaps" are high when women and men intermingle- whether it be devotional in intent or other.

so you are a Muslim ?? and you believe in the QURAN and our beloved PROPHET (SAW)...

THEN you should know that we as followers of Mohammed (pbuh) are obligated to follow him in every aspect of his life
another thing is that we are a nation of proof any act of the prophet which is passed on by scholars is authentic and we are not allowed to introduce any news acts such as the singing to praise the prophet as you mentioned earlier
we never heard of this at the time of his Companions

(Allah- the Almighty -: Say that if you love Allah, follow me the Sunnah of God and Allah will forgive you your sins)
