Music,Singing and Dancing in Islam...

so you are a Muslim ?? and you believe in the QURAN and our beloved PROPHET (SAW)...

THEN you should know that we as followers of Mohammed (pbuh) are obligated to follow him in every aspect of his life
another thing is that we are a nation of proof any act of the prophet which is passed on by scholars is authentic and we are not allowed to introduce any news acts such as the singing to praise the prophet as you mentioned earlier
we never heard of this at the time of his Companions

(Allah- the Almighty -: Say that if you love Allah, follow me the Sunnah of God and Allah will forgive you your sins)

Aymen amir anything which links God to humans-i feel is not Bidaath(Innovation) :)...

and about innovation how did you or whom ever brought this innovation now it links you to GOD if the information that brings us closer to God is from the prophet, and a biddah is any thing that has been added to the religion which the prophet never did

Believing in the Prophets/Messengers IS NOT ONLY A PART OF YOUR RELIGION i.e ISLAM-BUT IT IS A PART OF MANY OTHER RELIGIONS TOO i.e JUDAISM AND CHRISTIANITY :)...

:) xxx

i agree dear zoya

BUT, if the followers of CHRISTIANITY & JUDAISM are true followers they should then believe in our prophet...

DO YOU AGREE??

Dear people...

I want to know why Islam forbids(Haraam) Music,Singing and Dancing?...
Especially Women are'nt allowed-why?...

I was born into a Muslim household but i am a Spritualist,a Mystic,an Ascetic and a Divine Lover-to me Music,Singing and Dancing is a way to reach/attain God...

To me Music,Singing and Dancing is spiritual and a means to Love Allah(God)...

I hope i might get some good answers :) xxx

Response: Islam forbids certain kinds of music. Music that has nothing to do with islam or has a negative message is forbidden. The reason being is because music is very moving and inspiring, and in instances where the message is negative or against islam, one can be motivated to follow a path which is not good for them. Certain instruments are forbidden in islam for the same reason.

People listen to music because it makes them feel good. When you add a message to it, you can subliminally train the mind to follow that message. So music, as a whole is not forbidden. Only certain kinds.

hi ZoyaHayat.

all music made from instruments in islam are haram appart from a drum and another instrument which i don't know the name of in english.

singing without music is permitted aslong as there is nothing haram in that song such as swear words, mocking people etc etc.

dancing is also allowed but it must be accorsing to islamic teachings, ie. men and women must not mix.

hope thats what you were after.

Is not good music and bad music for Islam basically an Individual opinion? Or are there guidelines in the Koran?

Regards,

this is a clear verse that talks about music
The Almighty: (And of mankind he who purchases idle talk to mislead from the path of Allah without knowledge, and takes a joke, for them a humiliating torment) (6) Luqman

most of the Muslim scholars when interpreting this verse went to say that (idle talk) means music i will try to make it as short as possible

Abdullah bin Masood was asked about this verse, "and people who purchases idle talk to mislead from God's way, "said Abdullah bin Masood its singing by my God, who is no god but He repeated three times it is siniging

bn Masood on the words of God" and people who purchases idle talk, "said singing, as well as Ibn Abbas and Jabir and Akram and Saeed Bin Jubair and Mujahid, Makhool, Amr ibn Shuaib, Ali bin Ndimp. Hasan al-Basri said this verse, "And of mankind he who purchases idle talk to mislead from the path of Allah without knowledge," in the singing and the Psalms

Thank you for your response Aymen amir...

Since when has the Holy Psalms become purchased 'idle talking'?

Dear Lava :)...

I agree with you in many ways :)...

I practice Kathak(one of the North Indian Classical Dance form originated with the Courtesams(not Prostitues)) from childhood...the Raags, the Raaginis the Raag Putras cast a spiritual spell on me to reach to Allah(God)...

But this very link(Kathak and the Raags) of mine has been called disbelief and blasphemy by the majority of the Muslims...and to be honest it hurts...

I feel Music,Singing and Dancing is a beautiful piece of Art to express your Divine Love for the Lord :)...

i really don't know about dancing style you talk about. i do hope you reach God before you die.

we humans are weak creatures, ZoyaHayat. we easily fall into traps and our egos are desinged to follow useless desires. for that matter, everything in this world is there to distract us from God. everything is there to make us forget about God. in a day, i don't know how many times i forget God. not that i want to but it happens because i am not perfect. then i remember God again and feel sad. this is nature of human. if you know the word for human in Arabic; insan, this word that mean human in English has two words within itself. ins and ans if i am not mistaken. meaning of these words are; the one who forgets and the one who remembers. i find it rather poetic. i am insan, so are you. we would both sometimes forget God. like any person who wants to reach God, there are certain things that we should do. i would like to remind you them as a friend. there are clear commands of Allah. performing salaats are very important. because when we perform salaats, we knowingly stand before God so it is not that easy to forget God. my advice to you as your friend is to perform your salaats. don't skip them. if you ever feel like you care for dancing more than salaat, ask help from God because that might happen. if it happens, you should know there must be something wrong. i am just saying it. i believe if you stick with salaats, reading Qur'an and fasting, something like dancing could not drive you away from God. does not matter what people think of you. there are many people who join Friday salaats but they don't love God. even as they performing salaats, they think of business or their plans for future..etc. God knows what's within our hearts therefor it only matters what God thinks of you. as you see, one single thought could distract people and pull their attention something completely worldly and on the other hand what they see as blasphemy could lead another to God thanks to their love and devotion for God. i sometimes pray and request God to end my interest in anything that distracts me from God. because i know i might not be able to know, i might not be aware that i am drifting away. since it is God who lets everything happen, we should always ask for help even though we see no problem in our lives. this post of mine pretty much contains everything that i would want to say about singing and dancing. i hope i did not cross the line
