There are around 500 Universities spread in these 57 member Muslim States compared to that of United States which has over 7,000 higher education Institutions with 103 US universities in the top 200 rankings
Israel has a literacy rate of 98.5% for men and 95.9% for women as compared to the Muslim-majority states having an average literacy rate of around 40 per cent.
The Muslim world certainly has done all the wrong things “perfectly” to give least priority to the development of sound educational infrastructures. The point which somehow seems to have been forgotten is that the threat to our survival and the real enemy among us is the educational ignorance & backwardness creeping into our society and destroying it systematically.

What is the rule of Islam to low level of education ?
Quran encourage the education , if some muslims don't educate that's mean they don't follow their religion .

the poverity : most of muslims are poor , the colonisation : most of countries just independent from GB, or France ..etc , civil wars ...etc
and the developped countries did not give their experience (science) to muslims world., i don't know the word in english , maybe it's " Monopoly the science "

I don't think it is a monopoly of science as much as, corrupt governments keeping their people in poverty.
But that is only one possible aspect that has some truth for some places.
What tie does islam have in all this? because in some rich areas some muslims are still lacking.

as a simple solution for my opinion , when civil wars end ,and get less poverity , and import the pure science from the developpped countries
the muslims should follow perfectlly their religion , which ask them to educate .

Yes governments corrupt and the occupation for years , and monopoly of science from the west and some other countries ,and civil wars ,these ALL factures had big rule in least education in muslim world , and principal one muslims did not practice the order of their religion " READ" ....etc.

Sorry that is what I meant but I just worded it badly. i did mean certain muslim communities and/or cultures.
Hi Godobeyer, I agree that there are many factors.
But you should understand that for modern educators "memorizing the Quran" is a very weak approach to education. Trying to learn science from the Quran is also a very weak approach to education.
So even if all the poverty was fixed, traditional Muslim educational approaches are not strong. But also understand that modern education is better than ANY education used to be. So perhaps 1400 years ago "memorizing scripture" was the best education that anyone could get - at the time, perhaps it was "state of the art education".
But for the last 1400 years non-Muslim educators having been studying their craft and improving and learning more about learning and so on. Any teacher who claims that memorizing scripture is "good education" is just out of date. Maybe, a long time ago, it was good, it's now known to be very, very inefficient.

The UN keeps statistics very specifically on gender inclusion at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, and it's a measure they use in judging countries progressiveness.
Check back in the thread for the link, you might find it interesting. Women outnumber men in Australia at all levels (purely from memory) so I suppose this is proof that men are now repressed...or women are smarter...or that there are simply more women than men...

Yes women can't walk naked in Saudi Arabia and adultery isn't allowed, yes i know this is annoying for men who want women to be available as prostitutes and staring at them as sex objects, but education for women aren't forbidden and you know that the wife of the prophet was a leader of one battle and women worked as nurses in the battle field.
