If that is the case you have diluted the meaning of "God" to the point where it is pointless. Yes, the universe exists. But it has none of the traits of a God.
The universe brings me comfort. So I could say that my God is comforting. I might even dare to say that my God is loving

Why not just say that you get comfort from the universe? Calling it "God" only leads to confusion.
It Doesn’t confuse me. To me there’s nothing greater than the universe. And if I can remember correctly there’s other religions that think the universe is God as well

No, they clearly have an agency behind their beliefs. Or rather I should say agencies since they tended to be polytheists. Many of them could them could be said to be avatars of nature, but they still acted as sentient beings.

Well maybe someone else here can clarify it and clarify your claim about the natives as well. I don’t know too much about it but I’m pretty certain there’s religions out there that equate the universe with God
