I would say that most people do.
I don't really think most people here on the fourm do. I could be wrong about that. When you say "most people" what do you mean by that? Most people in American? Most Christians? Most people in Europe? Most people in the world? Please define it more.

Most Christians (and probably Jews and -possibly- Muslims)

Just FYI... Roman Catholics are the largest Christian denomination and we certainly don't view the story as literal.

Are you sure that view isn't just pertinent to your area?
I guess I've had less experience with Catholics over the last so many years but as a kid in a Catholic school it seemed like we were being taught to interpret things quite literally.

Thing is, even though Catholicism is the largest denomination alone, if you contrast it with all of the other denominations put together it ends up being smaller (right?). And protestants seem to uphold the stories in teh Bible as the -literal- word of God. They take things extremely literally.

Just wanted to make sure you knew there are at least some Christians who don't view the story as literal.

Oh, I realise that there are Christians who are able to think outside the square. I know quite a few of them. They tend to be 'liberal' Christians, so to speak. My dad is one of them (he is Anglo-Catholic- baptised into the Anglican church but with favours Catholic ideas/traditions).

Thanks for the link, I'm quite happy to recieve it!

Base on the current information I have available I take the flood account literally. But I'm not giong to kill myself if it turns out that it's not literal. I would excpet that people should be willing to change and improve their opinions as more accurate information becomes available.

Does anyone here actually take the story literally?

I have met many people who do. I was at a debate a few months ago between a philosophy professor and a Presbyterian minister, and most of the audience were literal true believers. It was something else. So maybe none of us take it literally, but I know for sure some do.

Aww, you keep forgetting that word the religious made up to fit all those animals on this boat, it wasn't millions, it was "KINDS" you know felines, are on kind, canines another KIND, and so on. Isn't it great how they can just make stuff up and then postulate that it is real.

Oh, right, I did forget about that. OK, NOW it is totally plausible! Thanks for correcting me! (LOL)

Well more accurate information is available, and if you were really willing to change and improve your opinion based on it, you should be doing so right about now.

More than "some." In fact, as I sit here I can't think of a SINGLE self confessed Christian I have EVER met that did NOT take every letter of every word of KJV as the revealed WoG unaltered and unalterable.

I don't doubt there are christians who "interpret" the bible. Such people do exist but - as is often heard - "Ya know, dem cat-o-lick folks - they ain't real christians.":cover:

I always wondered, how does a flood believer sufficiently explain coral and other sea plant life fossils found in the middle of north America? hundreds of feet above today's sea level? Why do i find fossil corals out in the hills of Indiana? Ok fish fossils I could understand, they could have gotten trapped while the water receded, but fossils attached to the bottom of the seas? How could they have gotten disturbed from the large amounts of rain from above? Or does one have to try and believe that God took the water from the oceans and rushed it over all the land?

The USA used to be about 2/3 under water, this is, about 100 million years ago.

Perhaps Noah's story is based on scientific truth about 100 million years ago hahaha

Well, that would certainly support the eastern belief of the same story :D
