Oklahoma schools in revolt over Bible mandate

Trump’s Bibles are made in China.
“Make China Great Again “?

Isn't China the second largest holder of U.S. debt? If I'm not mistaken, the largest are China and Japan, along with individual consumer debts, via credit cards, etc.

I'm guessing it's foreign relations related and aimed to help strengthen that, specifically. Just because international politics and our relations are sometimes compromised, it makes sense to do what is in our better interest, which in my opinion would be to do what we are able, to strengthen our able cooperation without shooting ourselves in the foot.

The Trump Bibles are, of course, manufactured in China. He charges about $60 apiece for them, whereas similar Bibles without the government documents sell for about $20. In what appears to be a cost-saving measure, Oklahoma has amended their Bible specification to allow for the purchase of other Bibles. Oklahoma plans to buy 55,000 of these Bibles, so not buying them at all would be an even larger cost saving. Walters says that the government documents could be included or not included, but schools will still need to provide both. So I'm guessing that they could still buy the Trump Bibles and that this move is just designed to blunt criticisms of his embarrassingly obvious partisan requirement to buy them.

Oklahoma amends request for Bibles that initially appeared to match only version backed by Trump

His lawyer told him how a corruption trial will end.

Any comment on Trump's hypocrisy
of decrying other people sending
business over-seas?

I don't understand what you are trying to say here. The most likely reason for Trump to produce the bibles there is that it is cheaper for him to do so. It would not affect our relationship with China if he decided to produce them in the US, where their production would at least help US workers. Are you claiming that Trump is producing his products in China to help US foreign policy?

I'm in favor of outsourcing. A win/win would include increased revenue and greater employment opportunities both here and where outsourced. I buy goods online at amazon (for example), who employs many people in my community, and has often sent the packages via a third party carriers like FedEx, and UPS, who also happen to employ lots of people in my community. Sometimes the goods are made in China, and other times they're not. Wherever they may have been made, they are still sent through supply chains and carriers who employ local community members.

It's good business sense, imo.

That's ironic, especially in light of the fact that Donald Trump vowed to stop outsourcing US jobs during his first term and failed to do so. He has just recently vowed to do it again, if he wins in November. It is even in the 2024 Republican platform.
To make clear our commitment, we offer to the American people the 2024 GOP Platform to Make America Great Again! It is a forward-looking Agenda that begins with the following twenty promises that we will accomplish very quickly when we win the White House and Republican Majorities in the House and Senate.
...
5. STOP OUTSOURCING, AND TURN THE UNITED STATES INTO A MANUFACTURING SUPERPOWER
...

Anyway, your earlier comment sounded like you thought producing Trump bibles in China would somehow help the US debt or maybe benefit foreign relations. Now you are just saying that companies like FedEx, UPS, and Amazon benefit from Chinese manufacturing because they profit off of sales of Chinese products. However, those companies would exist without Chinese products. They don't care where products are manufactured. They also profit off of sales of US products.

I think that you are trying too hard to justify Donald Trump's chicanery. The man talks out of both sides of his mouth. There are over 3,000 US companies that publish books. Why does he need to create jobs in China?

I'm not sure I follow your position. It isn't ironic at all. I made a statement how I thought this would be beneficial in a win/win type of agreement. I don't care what Trump vowed to do against outsourcing. I explicitly stated I support outsourcing AND stated the reasons why I support it. I'm sure profit margins would decrease if not for Chinese goods as would our foreign relations with them, and even though they have been strained for some time now, it's still good business sense to remain trade partners with and through companies who have a great deal of reason to agree with this stance.

OK, you want to double down on where you decided to shift your goalpost--away from US debt and towards outsourcing jobs to China. This, despite the fact that Trump is campaigning on not outsourcing manufacturing jobs, even though he is hypocritically outsourcing manufacturing jobs. You may personally approve of outsourcing, but that has nothing to do with the stinky partisan scandal that we are discussing in this thread.

Current Foreign Ownership of U.S. Debt

Japan owned $1.08 trillion in U.S. Treasurys in November 2022, making it the largest foreign holder of the national debt. The second-largest holder is China, which owned $870 billion of U.S. debt. Both Japan and China want to keep the value of the dollar higher than the value of their own currencies. This helps to keep their exports to the U.S. affordable, which helps their economies grow. Read more

How might foreign trade relations help strengthen our policies between nations? How would resisting China as a trade partner, and in light how much U.S. debt they hold, possibly lend us much merit as a nation worth increasing trade deals with? No, these are outsourced goods, in partnership with others, who have made deals with entrepreneurs in the U.S for an applied purpose.

Manufacturing jobs is another area where we could improve relations and revenue across the board and decrease our debt margins, but we've been in near grid lock on the issue for a while now, and one of the reasons is that it could pose a risk to the U.S, acknowledging the ties China has with Russia. The fact remains, China owns around 800 billion of our national debt, which we are responsible to make good on. I think it's best to increase win/win trade agreements and even in manufacturing, given we're able to match job creation (if not surpass it) here in the U.S. by doing so, creating a network and chain for the assembly of parts and production between us as nations.

@Balthazzar, this thread is not about public debt, and it is not about smart business practices. It is about a sleazy Republican scandal implemented by the Superintendent of Schools in Oklahoma regarding a purchase of 55,000 bibles. Neither the US nor the Chinese economies are at stake here. Trump was caught trying to make money off of this little scam. There is nothing new or remarkable in his behavior. It is just more evidence of the level of corruption that he brings to US politics and his own willingness to do the opposite of what he tells the public he wants to do.

I thought it was a good deal and I would be in favor of the networking between parties, and with the bible being printed in China. What you see as scandalous corruption, I view as a resourceful demonstration of interdependence, cooperation, and effort developed to meet the intended aim for more inclusive religious freedom in America.

Of course. You should order one of those special Trump bibles from China. A bargain at $60. Make America Great Again!

They have already placed a large order, and I really don't need one. Would you have us all to make it worse? I do like his slogan. I liked Obama's slogan, too.
