Well, there is currently for the 40 mm grenade launchers air burst ammo or standard HE fragmentation ammo. For a group of low-skilled people trying to in open terrain to take down a herd of animals, you would properly be able to kill more animals with that type of weapons than rifles.
In effect it doesn't matter if the target is a group of enemy infantry in the open or a herd of animals.
