You and he may be talking about different versions of the AK-47. Yes the well known version was a fully automatic rifle. The ones on the site the he linked are semi-automatic.

You won't find fully automatic ones for sale. At least not without massive permitting. But it is a fairly faithful reproduction otherwise.

I was aware of the different variants, but it's still a AK. ;) However, he semi-auto civilian versions can be modified to be fully auto:

That wasn't disputed. You said AK47's were hard to obtain. Th
You were mixing up Ak47s with other guns.

I said they are machineguns. You said I was
wrong. Do you still claim that?

You think it's easy to get a machinegun?Look it up, since you have not, then say honestly if that's " easy".

Then look up how often machineguns are used in crimes.
Or
If you are incapable admitting you are the one
who was wrong, not me, just say so.

AK47's were mentioned, and not all are fully auto, which wasn't specified in the initial post. But yes, the fully automatic ones would be very challenging and expensive to obtain legally, although they can be illegally modified to be fully auto as well.

those semi- automatic weapons

I thought you were better than that

Wait, so AKs cease to be AKs once modified? I was just going by naming convention used by the market that sells them as such, but if you say so.

They are not true AK47's. They are modified to be semi-auto.

a true AK-47 has a fully automatic setting, which is illegal in the United States. Models with semi-automatic settings are available and legal in the U.S. Manufacturers cannot make or import fully automatic weapons for the civilian market

If illegally modified so that it worked as a full automatic would you consider it an AK47 then? If I remember correctly the AK47 was more of a style than the make of a specific manufacturer. I could be wrong.
