Hi, Riverfox. To be a Christian, for most Christians, is to commit to and follow the teachings of Christ, not to "go with the Bible". The Bible is a history of his people and contains a few different versions of the story of his life. A follower of Christ is mainly concerned with the words and deeds of Christ. That makes up a relatively teensy portion of the bible. In fact, you could fit it into a pamphlet. And you could fit the two teachings that were most important to Christ onto a business card: Love your god with all your heart, and love your neighbour as you love yourself.
You seem to be under the mistaken that the Bible-obsessed Christians are the "real" Christians. That's just not the case. Those Christians are widely believed to be dangerous and insane, even by other Christians.
