How ridiculous. Clergy of all churches and religions pick and choose now what couples they will or will not marry based on their own evaluations. Why do you think that will change? There are already religions and churches ready, willing and able to marry gay couples. Why would a gay couple, or any couple, want to be married in a church that is hostile to them? The church wants to cover its *** in the potential event that the universal use of marriage means it could be forced to choose between tax exempt status and marrying a gay couple. It's not sure which one it would rather do, so it would rather nip the problem in the bud. A little preemptive, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Not how I want to spend my wedding day....Spite?

It isn't a "notion", it is a fact.I'm for gay marriage to clarify, or maybe universal civil unions (at the moment - I am known to flip-flop). I'm just here to antagonise the notion that my church is behaving hypocritically.
What is in the Book of Mormon that contradicts the Gospel's account that Jesus prohibited divorce? Not at all. If you were to believe that you could either get your information from a book that has been through numerous revisions and alterations, or from the source via a prophet, which would you pick?

Your ignoring it does not make it go away.
agreed.Selective public bigotry =/= hypocrisy

However your stawman is irrelevant.

I don't think the Book of Mormon discusses divorce. Nor did I imply it did. Modern day revelation has helped outline the church's policy on divorce. In our church, modern day revelation trumps scripture. And this is off topic, on reflection
3 Nephi 12:31-32 said:31 It hath been written, that whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of adivorcement.
32 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that whosoever shall aput away his wife, saving for the cause of bfornication, causeth her to commit cadultery; and whoso shall marry her who is divorced committeth adultery.
The Mormons attacked us first. And nobody is trying to take away their civil rights.Great - Prop 8 decision comes down and people see fit to attack Mormons again.
I don't know. If you think criticizing your church should disqualify us from having equal rights, you probably shouldn't.Why the **** did I ever support you???

I love the way you guys react so strongly to criticism, but can't understand why we react strongly to being denied equality under the law.
