You're right. If you don't believe anything, you'll never be wrong. Welcome to the athiest world. :D

My response to your question is that there are evil counterfeits of pretty much every good thing, and evil uses of the same. Just because evil men may try to take advantage of my faith, doesn't mean I shouldn't exercise it. We should obviously be prudent about where we go placing faith.

The value of faith is the exercise of humility and trust in acting on something that's not right in front of your face. There is knowledge to be gained by these steps into the dark that can never be had by staying safely within the edge of the light. The danger you mentioned is the reason for so much emphasis on faith in Christ rather than in the arm of flesh. Cuz I mean sure, if I can have a mansion in the hills by starting my own church and using my gift of public persuasion, holy cow. You bet I'll take advantage of undiscerning followers.

Done here.
If God chooses a man, gives him a vision, a message, and instructions to preach repentence to the world, would it not be wise to ask God for confirmation of the truth? Leaving man to his own wisdom is the opposite of what God is going for when he sends prophets. Finding the truth about God is less about being a genius and more about humbling yourself and exercising faith by kneeling and asking God.
And then having an overweening confidence in your ability to perceive the mind of god. Your method comes down to imagining you're some kind of seer or prophet yourself.

Why do I accept Prophet Muhammad's (saws) message? Well it is in part because of Muhammad (saws). But it is really because I found the Qur'an to be so beautiful and true. I fell in love with Allah (swt). I know it seems harsh that he sends people to hellfire. And it does hurt me, and it makes me really sad. But you know, I don't know who is going there, or what it is like, or what his plans are for them. There is even the belief that even if you have an ounce of faith, you will eventually be pulled out of there. Hell is really the only part of Islam that has me :(
I love the Qur'an so much. I love the way we pray, I love everything about it.
I was not born into Islam though. I found it on my own.

Luminous

non-existential luminary
same for me, but i didn't really enjoy any of the idol scriptures, so instead i asked God to illuminate me...and IT has. i don't like that God sends anti-agnostic, idol worshiping heretics to hell...but its only for a few thousand years of punishment.

Particularly for Muslims, LDS, Unification Church, or anyone else who accepts a specific person as a prophet of God.

When a man claims to be a prophet of God, what criteria do you use to determine whether he's telling the truth?

How about starting with the acceptance of the existence of God and prophets ?

In general it would seem that individuals think that anyone that does not agree with them and believe as they do will go to hell. For the record I do not believe that anyone that really does not want to be in hell will be forced there. I think many will look into heaven and proclaim that is not where they want to be and joyfully skip off to hell thanking their lucky stars.

It has always been my understanding that G-d does not look upon the minds of men to see what they believe. Rather He looks upon the heart and the kind works of men.

I understand the criticism of religion – Jesus did much the same in his parable of the Good Samaritan. He criticized the religious priest and Levite. Not for their religion but the lack of living religiously. He praised the Samaritan despite his false religion and because of his works of compassion.

I hope that those that are so critical of religion live as a light of kindness towards others – especially those that do not like very much.

Tell me more about your conversion. What did you convert from?

This reminds me of a convo I had with a mission companion while walking the streets of Brentood, CA. He had joined the church only a year before, and had since learned some doctrine that troubled him--eternal progression. As we walked I asked him about his concerns and one was that there were certain things he really liked that he wouldn't be able to do in heaven..."if that's how it will be, maybe I don't want to go there." I told him that it's not exactly like that. You won't get to heaven and have someone slap your wrists to keep you acting like an angel. If that's where you go, it will be because you no longer have the desire to do those things. You'll be happy. That's the point.

Or more likely, you'll be dead.
