Questions about Islam

Basically it's like when you disobey your parents and don't want them to find out.. While you fearful of the punishment.. It's only because of your love and respect of them you care what they think and are therefore fearful of their disappointment more than the actual punishment.. its kinda the same kind of fear when it comes to God.. Sorry I don't know how to properly put it in words what I mean

Suppose you fight with your father a lot, like I have most of my adult life? :p
haha

I hear you, thank you.

Would you ever punish your children for eternity for anything?

I don't most humans would, let alone compassionate and merciful humans. That to me looks like blatant, unimaginable cruelty.

An eternity is a long long time. Imagine 10^10000. That's still a blink in the eye of eternity. Even a light spank on your hand over eternity would be beyond any description. How can a so called merciful God dish out such punishment? And it's cruel sadistic punishment, lakes of fire, burning skin, pits of torture. Just because you don't believe in him? Is he that insecure?

Seems awfully made up to me. There are so many intellectual problems with Abrahamic faiths. Like the problem of evil. Why would a just God create evil? To toy with us? Sounds more evil than good.

Well we believe this life is a test and we will be answerable for everything we do in this life.. Our purpose in this life is not for amusement or play but to worship God.. That's our belief..

On the Day of Judgement God alone can judge.. And He is the Most Just and is not answerable to anyone however everyone is answerable to Him..

He gave us guidelines on how to live in this world and we should live life according to these guidelines

That's basically what we believe

If God allows soldiers to kill your family only to let you grow up to become a soldier and kill other families is it really your fault? It's His fault to allow this and not stop it. If he's setting up the test, he can pretty much set it up to fail you or pass you.

(I do believe in God, but the Abrahamic God concepts escape all sense of logic and mercy).

How do you see it as a false equivalency?
Because apart from the Crusades and "corrupt Churches/Church officials", Christianity wasn't the cause for those other events listed. And neither is Christianity the topic that is being contested (making any mentioning of Christianity essentially a non-sequitur by default). Correlating religions will only get us so far. An affirmation was made that religious violence and religion are separate, and I articulated that it can't be because they are inextricably linked, hence the adjective that comes before the term, violence, in "religious violence".

You are confusing Islam with what people do.
If you say that is what Islam orders, you have to show me where

You not allowed to kill innocent people even if you are at war according to Islam.. So if you are fighting against soldiers you can fight them however you cannot go after their families..

What's your definition of pass and fail?

So you believe there is a God that created everything but you don't believe in the Prophets ( Peace be upon them)?

God has created the universe. God has created everything. God has created destiny. Right?

If God doesn't have absolute control over everything in the universe, then he isn't omnipotent. If God does have absolute control over everything and he allows evil to happen, then he is malevolent. And if he tests us based on the evil he provides into a system, then he isn't benevolent and the test is unfair.

I wasn't talking about Islam, I was just talking about the reality of the world.

I believe there is a God, and I do believe some 'prophets' might have been enlightened beings who were in touch with the divine. But I think it's impossible to verify this and many of them were probably just men trying to gain power. The divine is abstract. And I don't believe in heaven and hell, they seem like ridiculous concepts.

This has nothing to do with my post. why don't you stick to your statement and my response to it instead of jumping from topic to another because you don't have a logical response!

Just because you're incapable of understanding it doesn't make it illogical. It simply means you don't have the intellectual capacity to understand basic logic. And that subconsciously you're threatened by the questions any child would ask, but you don't because you're brainwashed.

With regards to destiny, in Islam we believe it is far beyond our comprehension to discuss..

Basically we believe mankind has free will and makes choices in their lives.. The angels however are always worshipping God and don't commit any evil.. However mankind has intellect and reason to guide him in the choices he makes.. That is why this life is a test.. To test us on how we live our lives and the choices we make.. And we will be answerable for this.. As a reward for righteousness God will grant us Paradise however if we don't live life the way God intended we will enter Hell

We belief that the Holy Scriptures came to verify the Prophets as well as when new Prophets came they usually came to confirm the previous Prophets message was the truth

If the vast majority of people following Islam were like ISIS, and other such terrorist groups...I'd say that yes, some here have a point. But, when the majority is merely living their lives like many of us do, violence-free...I have to wonder why one could conclude that Islam is the culprit here.

It's because you're ignorant of the world, quite frankly. The vase majority of Muslims are either brainwashed or ignorant or uneducated. Also many Muslims ignore the bad parts of the Quran, while cherry picking only the good. It doesn't mean that they're bad people, but the religion itself isn't the best.

I've given several examples of countries which are no different from terrorist states and organizations. Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan come to mind. All of these three have come about their fundamentalism without much U.S. intervention. Saudi Arabia regularly beheads people, recently they beheaded a Burmese woman while she screamed she's innocent.

Deidre: That name is beautiful & typical of how you make meaning.
The bird art you added to your posts? That is beautiful.
I watch Al Jazzera news often and the t-v news show has the most beautiful
design.
Is that Arabic art? Muslim/Islam Art?
I know too little about Arabic culture. Sadly I know too much about islam from what we
see sensationalized via the television media.
The staff deleted one of my posts here as being "inflamitory", certainly a subjective
opinion but I must respect the staff. I can understand where it may have seemed inflamitory depending upon ones world view.
I find you a most beautiful woman and you have earned my respect tho we oft
disagree. It's o.k. to disagree.
I haven't a clue what you look like but I know how you look and how you mean.
You & I connected somehow, positive protons perhaps.:D
I feel the same for JayDeeDee in a bit of a different way.
There are some men here that I've electro-bonded with.
( Did I invent a new word just now? )

Good post. Perhaps we think we see all that there is to see about islam but we only see the more gross, "newsworth" events.
Were it not for some internet websites we couldn't possibly know what really goes on in the world of islam.
Let me explain a bit.
There is a difference between cultures within islam. Many countries/nations that are predominantly islamic do not have the kinds of violence we see in the middle east.
Not even close. It's the Arabic culture itself that has made islam the violenct feudal
states they are.
I've dug, read, studied, much about the most violent of the islamic world and found myself studying the history of the Arab cultures.
The root of the violence is pre-islam.
But I don't think this is what Deidre had in mind when she started this thread.

Pakistan is not very Arabic in culture, yet it is a hotbed of fundamentalism. When Islam spread a lot of other cultures like Iraq, Egypt and Syria were not arabic. They were unique. Islamic expansion destroyed the indigenous cultures and replaced it with the bedouin mentality of Saudi Arabia.

Do you believe that there are good and bad people ?
Why not all people are good or all people are bad ?
What make some to be bad and some others to be good ?

I think the question is, what do *you* believe about good and bad people? Presumably, you believe in an omnibenevolent, omnipotent and omniscient God, so the question is how do you reconcile that belief with your belief that there is good and evil in the world? I don't think Islam has an adequate response to this criticism.

Because we got the free will.
