Religion and Socialism

aged ecumenical anthropologist
is religion a socialist type organization and if so, why would a religious person be against socialism but utilizing social programs; such as....police, fire, military and education programs?
Jesus' Sermon On the Mount is without a doubt a socialist agenda-- but please don't tell the conservatives about this, OK? :)

It has perplexed me how conservative Christians somehow reconcile their political ideology with Christ's teachings and example despite them being completely antithetical to one another. Some real cognitive dissonance there.

I'm not exactly a proponent of socialism, but do you believe these things to be somehow incompatible with it?
I think they work in conjunction. I believe there is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism... someone called it capitalism with a heart - which is compatible with what Jesus shared.

Pauline religion ─ Matthew's too ─ sounds quite communistic, a society without private property at all. That eye-of-the-needle pitch (rather like that of Cynic philosophers) was never what you'd call a crowd-pleaser, at least among the onlookers.

Personally I have no problem with capitalism as long as it's practiced ethically. I just don't believe that some things should be privatized and for profit, like healthcare. Here in the U.S. it's a predatory racket that drives people into debt.

That's not how it works over there. Happiness and community are important and people do tend to be happy, healthy and safe there.

Thats great, but what happens when the food is not delivered, the government decides that no one can go to church, speak their mind etc.?

Do you honestly believe that the rest of the first world is a despotic dystopia? Most developed nations have the same freedoms we do, but with less piles of dead school children.

No they don’t.

Canada shuts down churches at will. England and much of the EU has strict limits on speech, self defense, power generation, work etc.

The tree hugging agenda may well see many people die of cold this winter in many parts of Europe and the US.

and you you think the right to have a gun is a problem please review the recent mass stabbing in Canada.
Or the many times a year the good guy with a gun stops the crazy person.

How many overall stabbing deaths in Canada vs. overall shooting deaths in the U.S.?

What if we find the moon is made of cheese? People like what they have there and if they need to change in the future, I am sure they will find something else that works for them.

So with the history of Germany, Italy, Russia, China, Cambodia etc. you feel inclined to trust that governments will always want what is best for their people?

That is the gun murder rate. Different set of numbers.

personally I don’t think people sit around hoping that when they are murder it’s with a knife or club vs a gun.
That doesn't change my point:

Why are we the only country where school shootings are so common? Is it right that school children die just so gun fetishists can compensate for their small peepees?
