"RFfiliates" The Collected Thread

REFLECTIONS: When one is involved in a debate there is a certain expectation of waiting for the response of a fellow debater. Even in the most heated debates, I often anticipate that there are forum members waiting for a member to get back to the boards just to see how they will respond to the comment that their opponent has left for them. This was the fire that was lit under this strip. The comic was to show the two shades of an RF member. The RF member that says good morning to everyone in the community, politely opening doors and going out of their way to help someone but as soon as they get in that debate arena, all bets are off. This is the essence of debating on RF. A no holds barred death match of beliefs and theories. Netdoc for the most part, is probably a really nice guy and the perfect character to showcase in this instance. I went as far as to imagine Netdoc in an antique diving suit (that if he doesn’t already own one, he should). It was not my intention to square Netdoc off against two atheists but I do remember a post that Netdoc responded to Retrorich saying that they didn’t always see eye to eye on things. Jmoum’s “motion mech” was a pleasure to include because his avatar is so cool. This may be as “superheroish” as RFfiliates gets but it still remains one of my favorite strips and I beleive is the first entry in the "Everything You Wanted To Know About RF" series.

REFLECTIONS: This weekly strip was an idea that was inspired from a question that Withdrawnmist posted in Site Feeback. He simply asked if there was a way to see who sent you Frubals and I responded with a type written response. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it would be an appropriate addition to the “RFfiliates” strip. Who says that collaborating can’t be fun?

REFLECTIONS: Just in time for the Holidays was the RF group picture. This strip’s protagonist was Jewscout who finally afforded me the opportunity to work with his avatar and there was the concern that since he was relocating, I was unsure if I was going to get another chance at showcasing one of RF’s brightest personalities. The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s album cover became the inspiration for this comic. I knew I was in trouble when I started casting members for the photo. I wanted this strip available for the holidays and it was important that I get an early start. I knew it was important to include people who haven’t been in the strip before but in my mind, I wanted to include everyone. It’s an interesting moment when perception meets reality and by the time I drafted the first row, I immediately realized that not everyone was going to make the cut. My solution to this was to double up where I could and as you can see for the members who used symbols or icons that some of these members are present and available within other avatars. There are over 65 RF members present in this picture and my apologies for not being able to include more.

REFLECTIONS: This was supposed to be one of the very first RFfiliate strips but I was glad to put it off if just to sort out my thoughts and decide where I wanted to go with it. I enjoy getting under the skin of RF and to imagine a viable world that exists from what we see on the surface. When I first joined RF, I was always fascinated with the workngs of moderators and envisioned it to be some type of secret order that shared information which only certain other moderators were privy to. This episode was sort of like a TV episode of RF COPS (bad poster, bad poster, whatcha gonna do?) I know I wanted to include a Super Mod which was adequately represented by Robtex’s avatar in a jedi robe sporting those cool aviator glasses. I included an experienced Mod (Mr. Emu) and a rookie (represented by Quoth The Raven) in a “day in the life” Moderator story. This is one of my favorite strips and goes to show the potential of exploring the RFfiliate Universe.

I think I'm going to have to start bugging the others to use the '417' line for every single incident. Frubals for making me fall off my chair in laughter! It's funny- the image of a 'do not cross' line is exactly how I've always pictured closed threads!

They should be working now sometimes if I clean out and delete some images from the source file the posts and pictures usually reappear.

From idea to finish about 8 hours for every 4 panels.

This includes:
Ideas (which is the easiest part)
Penciling
Inking
Scanning
Photo Editing (brightness and contrast)
Clean Up (unwanted lines)
Speech bubbles and type font

wow.....for me the ideas are the hardest part. if you want to keep these images up without having them on your computer, put them on photobucket then link back to here....if your going to do it for all of your comics it will take awhile, so you might wanna only do your new ones

With the characters and events of RFfiliates the Universe usually writes itself.:)
