When it comes to theology the man is an ignorant childlike idiot.

Hmmm, I wouldn't go that far, some of his criticisms are quite valid. My main problem is that he only really focusses on easy to attack God concepts. A wider understanding of religion and less of a tendency towards sweeping statements would make me more inclined to appreciate him.

Ignorant of theology? Everyone is ignorant of theology except a handful of people who do not need to work for a living and spend their lives studying the most mundane and pretty much meaningless details about nothing.

Seriously, what do you know about theology. The imbecilic debates over theological views has never been the argument of Dawkins and when members of this forum try to use theology to slam the man they are only showing off their own stupidity.

Mocking people because of their spelling mistakes and for not being as educated as you is not a good sign of character in my view. In general I think Dawkins is a brilliant man who has falling into the trap of surrounding himself with people who don't challenge his ideas, and this has made him come across as increasingly arrogant, and belittling , which works against his professed desire to educate.

I agree with you on this. I also don't agree with Dawkins on some issues of religion in general, but some of those emails were still pretty funny.

Why would a theist NOT want to study science.

Of course they might just not care or just not have the mind for it, but if they are retarded enough to actively avoid science because some scientist said something about their mythology then does the scientific community really want that person?

That is true. It's very discouraging to someone when you so harshly mock and ridicule what they hold dear. Really it's no different than the emails that are summed "We're going to laugh when you burn in hell you mother ******....Jesus loves you." Why would anyone want to think about taking up Christianity when they are treated with such hostility? And it does work both ways. Why should devoted Christians study science when they are constantly bombarded with messages of the same hostility? "Well, our science has shown this, this, and this, but you "holy book" is a worthless piece of ****." The hypocrisy does indeed flow from both sides.

science doesnt go after religion as a whole

religion and the creationist and ID all go after science.

science is defending itself and not only defending itself its taking the myth's down! in my opinion.

I was referring to science. I was talking about people who try to explain science to Christians while mocking and scoffing their religion. And while some religious people, and certainly not all Christians/Jews/Muslims/Whatever and definitely not all religions, try to obscure science, you can't convince those who have been mislead by harshly stating they are wrong. All that does is reaffirm that it is science that is out to get them, and science has turned these people, who lack faith in God, into calloused individuals.

It has nothing to do with science having to defend itself. It has to do with people who advocate science but very harshly attack people of faith. They are basically saying "You should learn this, but first we are going to scoff at your religious beliefs because what we want you to learn does not support them at all." It's called a "turn-off."

Science is awesome. But to use a language that is harsh and aggressive may be counter productive, especially if you want progress. It has nothing to do with who is right or wrong and everything to do with how people work.
