The problem with the "He was God and could see anywhere." claim is that it makes the mountain superfluous. Why did Satan take Jesus to the top of a tall mountain? According to the Bible it was to see the entire world. That makes no sense even if it was the Roman world of Jesus's time. It only makes sense if the world is flat. By trying to use that excuse one is still saying that the Earth is flat according to the Bible.

Maps always help with perspective. Luke screws up geography in Palestine to the extent that scholars think he never left Antioch.
Really? I had heard that he got some geometric claims correct. In fact when I have heard apologists try to defend Luke's poor history claims they always defended his history by in effect claiming that he was a good geometrician:confused:

Surprisingly FEW denominations have the active interpretive readership of the Priestly Believers as part of the Service , which, the Presbyterians then the most active, democratic, interpretive scriptural people say Jesus didn't command marriage as one man and one woman, wait that's the Actual Bible, that they're the historic democratic congregation of including congregations' interpretive scriptural interpretations.

Catholics killed people for owning Bibles. Owning Bibles was illegal property for Christians. The top 6 saints before Jesus are nowhere in the Bible and they're mostle post-Apostle too, later Saints of the Catholic Church. Jesus is the 7th intercessor for popular prayer in Italy. So, I find the topic of the thread narrow and obtuse. "All Christians believe the inerrant Bible".

You'd watch a Roman man pray to his God with his back to you in Latin, where only God can hear, for an hour, for a few thousand years, in High Latin Mass. Some music is 4 competing rounds of gibberish, but God can make it out, that sort of nonsense. There'd be a full Calendar of Holidays over 200 of them including Christmas.

Luke, it is an anonymous Gospel whose author makes no claim to first hand knowledge and no claim to knowledge even of Paul.

It was written more than a half century after the crucifixion, is dependent on secondary sources and contains numerous historical errors and contradictions with the other Gospels.

Ya the OP is making some unintelligible claims. The Tropical Rainforest has seeds not relevant to the people in Israel? An All Knowing God is still talking to the farmers of Israel! Who wrote Leviticus? The low-bar of "God tried to speak to me" for most of the books in the Bible. (Prophet)

Ya I've heard your strain, and the Q source for Matthew, Mark, John but a mysterious other Luke author, sort of.

Yes, the longest line of sight relies upon the line of sight from one tall peak to another. Anything beyond the 211 miles that was low lying would be below the horizon. But it gets worse for our Bible defender. The mountains anywhere near Israel are much lower. By trying to limit it to the Roman world he limits it to mountains in the Roman world which are at best half the height of Everest giving a far nearer horizon. And since area is proportional to radius squared cutting the radius in half would mean a fourth of the area visible from Everest. An insignificant amount of the Earth gets even smaller.

The highest mountain in Israel, Mount Hermon, is 6,690 feet at its peak. If Jesus were there, he would've seen the Earth's horizon at ca. 50 miles away; meaning he would have been able to have been shown ca. 7,850 square miles of the Earth from that vantage point. ca. ( 50 * 50 * 3.14 ). Whereas, my grandfather had showed me ca. 31,400 square miles of Earth from the vantage point of the plane where he had piloted for me to an altitude of 14,000 feet.. Hence, my highest vantage point would have enabled me to see four times as much of the Earth's surface than the greatest amount of the Earth's surface area that Jesus Christ would have been able to view from his hypothetical highest vantage point.

Is that the only two times you have been in a plane?

Do you think Jesus could see the whole Roman Empire of the first century?

Yet-- you think it's literal proof of a round earth claim?

Hmmmmm..... there is absolutely ZERO references in the silly bible, that describe a spherical or ball-shaped earth. None. Nada. Zip. Not one.

LOTS of places in the bible that describe ... a flat plate.

LOL!

hahaha, meantime a plate can be described as round, like it or not. You're silly.

I think, when I was like you (an unbeliever), that few to no answers would have pleased me. Only God can give someone like you faith and understanding. Have a nice day.

Yeah, among a few others here I figured you'd be one of those who, lacking the ability to mount a defense, would have to resort to ad homs. Thanks for reconfirming my opinion.

.
Yeah, well some say Jesus got a fair trial.

Stamp, beat out -- makes sense -- any way you look at it. :) Spread, too. It all makes sense just as some see clouds leading to rain. It all makes sense. :)

I've flown coach on many commercial flights, I can't see much out of a small plane window. I'm guessing an altitude of somewhere around 120 miles would be needed to see one-fourth of the Earth's ellipsoid; I seriously doubt Jesus Christ could have obtained such a great height.

My dearest friend flew a Golden Eagle so I got to fly a couple times a week for years and years. Its thrilling.

I've made 50 trips across the Atlantic commercially. When I was a kid the pilot would invite us into the cockpit for a Coca Cola..

I LOVE to fly.. and I agree that Jesus couldn't see the Roman empire.

You think Jesus could see from Egypt to Babylon?

No need it was a all a part of the Roman Empire of the known world in the time of JESUS. As posted earlier we are not told how JESUS was shown the kingdoms of the world. Which to the known world was the Roman Empire. Your assumption is that he had to visibly see, every country in the whole world. The scriptures do not say this. The known world ruling power at the time of JESUS was the Roman Empire. It does not say in the scriptures that Jesus had to see every part of the Roman empire. The point of the temptation was that Satan would give him everything. Some like to read into the scriptures things the scripture do not say in order to twist them to say things they would like them to but do not.
