Given the amount of animosity, anger, gratuitous anger, and other negative emotions and behavior associated with RF's political forums, do you think RF would be a better place without political forums? What say you?
More for me then.T
That stuff is revolting ( do you like it ?) they can keep it. I wouldn't feed it to my dogs.
Ech !More for me then.
All the black pudding is mine though.More for me then.
OMG !!!All the black pudding is mine though.
I see 2 ways to view the question....
1) Eliminate political discussion - bad idea.
2) Eliminate separate forums for political discussion - possible.
Just to be safe, I voted "Yes"...keep the political forums.
Good to see you back around, Jayhawker Soule! That is easily the dumbest manifestation of petit bourgeois avoidance that I've seen all day1

... yes, I understand that it's only 10:43 AM. So what?
I can't see that political discussion is less important, less integral, than discussion about other forms of belief. Nor do I really think that they can be easily separated.Given the amount of animosity, anger, gratuitous anger, and other negative emotions and behavior associated with RF's political forums, do you think RF would be a better place without political forums? What say you?
I'm non-US, and it's not pushing me away...It takes up new threads, brings in trolls, increases moderation unnecessarily and pushes non-US people away.
What might be nicer is having members learn how to actually debate, and keep their tempers, which have no legitimate place in a true debate, at a mild simmer. Keeping one's focus on the subject matter being debated, and clothing your disagreements with factual argument is a great place to start.
How are you going to rebut something without a stated position? That is just silly.Discuss them all if you choose. I am prepared to rebut most, as I am sure my friend Salvador is.
BUT, lets not concentrate on words, they are a dime a dozen, and mean little.
Actions are tangible and reflect what is actually occurring.
Have at it if you choose.
I voted yes even though I rarely if ever participate. Politics and religion are often interwoven. I agree the forums are often negative but severely curtailing freedom of speech seems heavy handed and we all know where that leads.Given the amount of animosity, anger, gratuitous anger, and other negative emotions and behavior associated with RF's political forums, do you think RF would be a better place without political forums? What say you?
I pay attention to politics from all around the world, some more closely than others, obviously. But it's getting to be such a small planet, I think it's not a bad idea to have a general idea about what's going on, as there is always a potential for impacts even where the connection isn't immediately obvious.WE discuss in North American politics what is pertinent to us. Last time I checked, Britain wasn´t in North America.
Many Europeans, and dare I say it, Canadians ( though not American, they are North American) decide to join the fun, so be it.
There are numerous forums where others should feel quite at home.
Just watch that clicker and you will be just fine.,
I like to think there are enough non-trolls, non criminals, and people of differing opinions willing to politely discuss them with evidence and reason that the forum would survive. Frankly, I believe the 6 or 7 worst offenders probably keep several times that number from actively participating, so there would be a net benefit to airlocking them.
Edit: And if those 6 or 7 are all that's keeping the forum afloat, the thing deserves a bullet anyway.
And yet we used to have an active and civilized member base without the political animosity. Discussing politics is fine. Making everything a few people do that make headlines into a thread is absurd.Get rid of all the main events, the attention grabbing topics, and you're going end up with a very dull and boring place like those sites with a posting or two appearing every few months if even that many.
Unfortunately, of most Americans a good chunk of them won't understand what you said and the other chunk will refuse to believe things can possibly be related to and effect and influence each other in such ways.I pay attention to politics from all around the world, some more closely than others, obviously.
