Should Tipping be Banned?

Yes. I know what you mean. I hired a local high school girl to help me do some spring cleaning. In an hour and a half she did not figure out for herself what we were doing so I had to tell her everything. Some of the time she was messaging on her phone. I was wanting to give her $50.00 but ending up giving her a $25.00 donation for her trip.
This is a shame, I would bet her parents never had her do any chores as a child.

When we spoil our children and shelter them from the real world, we are not doing them any favors.

Many times I believe some youngsters have never had a good meal served to them properly. They really are at a disadvantage in the service industry without motivation and the proper training.

What is it with this love affair with the cellphone anyway? If you are working or in school, the damn things should be turned off or put away till break time or you get on your OWN TIME.

Being sick has always affected your ability to pay your bills.

Why not be truthful, I believe you resent that some folks work harder than you do and make much more money.

I further believe that substandard servers don't really like the idea of waiting on people hand and foot in the first place.

I don't resent that some folks work harder than I do. Why would you believe that? I don't work at all because I am disabled. I have Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Asthma, and several other health conditions some of which are serious. Because of these health conditions I am unable to work.

But the truth is that I honestly believe that all people should be paid an hourly wage. I honestly believe in a living wage too. Its downright sickening that here in America we have people who can't afford to pay their bills simply because the wages aren't up to par with the cost of living.

I live in the U.S. where waiters make jack squat and live off of tips. So no, I don't think tipping should be banned.

However, if waiters where actually paid a good wage (even minimum wage is better than the $2.13 waiters make), then perhaps the need to tip in order for people to pay bills would eventually become unnecessary.

Yeah I think there would be nothing wrong with tips but I also think that waiters should make a wage.

Raise all the prices on the menu by 15% and then pay that to the servers.

I guarantee people will still ***** about it.

A lot of people think that an hourly wage of $2.13 is all waiters make in addition to tips when answering this question.

I hope they know that if the tips + their wage is not equal to or more than the minimum wage for a non tipping job set by department of labor, the employer has to compensate the difference. So in a way all waiters and waitresses make at least $7.00

I stopped tipping once I learned this fact.

The profession of waiting tables should not make good money. Because there is negligible skill involved in it and you do not really pay much to train your skills of serving as opposed to other forms of education. They should rightfully belong to the lowermost portion of the scale of pay where others like fast food employees are present.

LOL

Do you tell your servers this before they bring you the food or after?

This is a common misconception. It is illegal for an employer to pay less than minimum wage. If tips do not make up the difference, then the employer must.

I kind of lean this way. I busted my *** for 5 years at one of the top schools in the nation for my career field to get a good job and I don't get tips. I also worked retail in high school and also did not recieve tips. Why should waiters/waitresses be some kind of special class? Their job requires no special education. But, since I know how crappy minimum wage is I still tip.

Have you considered not eating out, given your hostility towards people other than yourself making a living?

I have never heard of this and I have waited many times at many places.
