I don't think most of the members realize just how fast the old ship was sinking.

All along, I thought I had computer viruses & such.

From our perspective, the people complaining about the update are like shipwreck survivors complaining because of the daiquiris being served on the rescue ship don't come with the right color umbrellas.
Complaining is RF's favorite sport.
Relax & enjoy it.

I can't believe they gave me a pink one! :(

It was notable that something was seriously wrong leading up to the change... every frubal took between 30 seconds to a minute to 'take'. At first I thought it was my internet, but other sites seemed to be working fine...

Even on its best days the old software was, well, old.

Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
I looked at account settings and religious affiliation is still there, and it still says the religion I follow. Maybe if there was a way when you hover over someone's name there could be a small section that tells you their religious affiliation, that would make the feature useful again?

Haven't had any issues.

But a nice feature I think would be useful is the ability to resize images that you link in a post. For instance, I might link an image which is 1200x900, which would be massive in the post, so having the option to change it in the post would be great.
I don't think they wrote code for that. Are you volunteering to write it? Joke. :D I just found an issue.

I still can't highlight parts of the text in order to delete/copy/bold etc. It a pain when trying to format a response.

What I mean by "highlight" is to hold the left mouse button and run the mouse over the text, which then has a blue background added. I just tried it on the post above, and it works. See ... Could you link the post here? I just copied and pasted that sentence. It doesn't work in the reply section.
Make sure the preview tab on the right isn't toggled on.

Btw, when it was highlighted it gave me a choice to reply to it. Is that a new feature?
No. This has been around since the last iteration.

The correct term seems to be "select". Here's an explanation I found. I selected and copied it on the other site and pasted it here with Ctrl/V. I can't select any of it here in the reply area. Added: I can select text now that it is posted, but once I edit it I can't do it again.

How to select text in Windows by clicking or tapping

Highlighting text in Windows by clicking or tapping works pretty much the same way as selecting multiple items. Click or tap once, and hold to start your selection. Then, drag your cursor or finger and notice how the characters on your screen are highlighted. Release when you are done selecting your text.

Clicking and holding while dragging the cursor selects text

It doesn't work on Microsoft Edge either. Thought I'd try it, as some sites are not tested on Firefox. No, that's not it.

You guys should'a led with that complaint.
Better to be seen as fellow victims than imperious minions of The Man.

Anyway, it works better than the old XenForo.
And my newfound facility with this version will
serve me well on another forum that's been using
it for a couple years now.
Woohoo!
You have time for another forum? When do you sleep? ;)

I think this can be considered an issue.
If I type blah blah blah :D
I can't type anything after that emoji, unless I hit Enter before I place the emoji.

Well, that seems to have fixed it. Wait a minute, now it's different. With Preview in R-hand top corner bold, I can enter new stuff (as I am now). But I can't select. Click the text and it goes off ... and I can select and copy but not type more or position the cursor to paste. Click the text and it goes off ... That last bit was from the copy I did, now I can paste it but not select.

This is another bit of backstage trouble: the first time the email verification stopped working, the admins contacted the owners because we knew that the lack of new registrations was a major issue for a forum like this. The owners attempted to fix it within the confines of the old software, but it didn't even last a full week before breaking again because the software had no reliable spambot control in place.

For months after, I would sometimes browse the list of new registrations in the admin CP to manually validate accounts. Of course, I needed to check the IPs against spam blacklists in case they were spam IPs. So in order to come out with two or three legitimate new members, I usually had to go through 20-30 spambots.

If the forum could have somehow survived the issues with the old software for a few more months, the long-term deterioration would have absolutely killed the forum anyway.
