Soooo...Packers or Steelers? And what's your game day menu?

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
For every 1 Drew Brees there are 10 Michael Vicks.

What do you hope to gain by being a football hater?

For every misspent dollar earned by a player, there are many dollars pumped into local economies, local jobs, tax funded programs, charities, etc.

As for the personal character of players, the Brees and the Vicks get a lot of air time. They are the extremes. The players run the gamut of the good, the bad, and the ugly, as do the coaches, owners, and everyone involved.

So what?

Let me ask each of you something. If you were offered a million dollars a year to do something that you love, something you excel at, something you had worked at since you were a child, something you had dreamed of achieving all your life - would YOU turn that opportunity down?

I am a Jets/Giants fan. I would have been rooting for either had they made it this far. But since the Jets were beaten by the Steelers I have to stay Green.

We has chili and chips tonight

Of course I wouldn't, but I would still question the sanity of whoever thought it was worth a million dollars If what I were doing had no practical use or purpose.
It says nothing good about a society when athletes get more attention and recognition than scientists.

I wouldn't turn the opportunity down, but there still is no reason why football players should payed so much more than, say, soldier, who keep our country safe or police who enforce law.

Nothing. I'm merely pointing out our culture's lack of priorities.

Well, it seems this is just as much a waste of time and energy as a football game then - and a lot less lucrative. And contributes nothing to any tax funded program or charity! ;)

Charity and funding is no excuse for the obscene amount of money players make or how much people prioritize sports over more meaningful and coherent things. Maybe that is why Americans are so bad at geography and many don't care to understand current events ;)

I think a lot of people are overpaid. Some people think that I am overpaid.

The bottom line though is that in a free enterprise system, the market determines our salary.

Maybe that is why Americans are so bad at geography and many don't care to understand current events.

I doubt that football is to blame for this national trend.

Though some Americans manage to like football, be pretty good at geography, and have a great interest in understanding current events. Myself for starters.

For instance, all during the game, I've been googling and reading up on Serbia. But hey, that's just me.

I think with the sport's world is it more than being overpaid. It's being overpaid to do something mundane and generally useless.

I admit I was over-exaggerating. But still, I think that many Americans are far too obsessed with things like pop culture and sports in general. It is essentially dumbing down society. People care more about things like Lady Gaga and football games at the cost of things like science and philosophy, which many would probably find boring. This trend is very unhealthy because it encourages overly excessive materialism and it is causing a brain drain among people of my generation I feel :(

However Kathryn, I am happy to see though that you try to keep up with things so many others do not :)
