Soooo...Packers or Steelers? And what's your game day menu?

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
WOOOOOOHOOOO, PACKERS WIN!!!

Very satisfying - but last years' game was much better.

... and the Falcons beat Green Bay during the regular season. Greenbay is just a wildcard team that got on a lucky streak. Stink'n Wildcard teams. They shouldn't be allowed to play in the Superbowl.

I'm a chiefs fan...

If I had to choose out of these two, Packers.

.... ahhhh

I was joking about this.

The packers stepped up when the time came. That is why they are SuperBowl Champs. :bounce

IKR? We could use the money people put into football and do far more productive things like building hospitals or give teachers, policeman, and soldiers better salaries (unlike sports players who don't deserve it). Besides, watching my dog fetch is more entertaining than people chasing balls.
You do realize it's the teachers, policemen and soldiers who watch the games?

Not to mention that they could actually contribute something worthy to society like most people who have jobs do.
Lol, all these haters. Look at what many NFL players and the NFL do for charity. 3 of them who were featured tonight are supporting unpriviledged youths in Africa and inner cities. I'm sure you're putting in your money to do the same right?

Many high schools will cut funding for important programs and courses just to funnel it into their useless sports teams. I would like my tax money to further the actual education of children rather than be wasted on pointless crap.
Alumi is who usually supports the sports. Funds are from the government.

It still irks me that San Francisco passed on Rodgers for Smith. We could have had another great QB.

Why? You have 10,000+ posts. I would bet that there are many that would ask why someone would spend that much time posting on a forum board when they could do something more productive.

That has little to do with the points I've made, but I think you're just upset because I put down some silly little sport.

If someone wanted to play football (or watch people play football) 24/7, I couldn't care less. That wasn't the problem. More power to them. Clearly I was talking about professional sports being a social phenomenon and our cultures' excessive obsession and glorification of it.

Of course I wouldn't, but I would still question the sanity of whoever thought it was worth a million dollars If what I were doing had no practical use or purpose.

It would be worth it to pay you that much because the person would make a lot of money off of it. And sports do have a practical purpose. They bring people together and make life fun. When a city's football team makes it to the Super Bowl, it's amazing how much it affects the whole city. I'm sure Kathryn can attest to that from last year, and I can from when the Ravens won.

It says nothing good about a society when athletes get more attention and recognition than scientists.

There's no doubt that the balance is skewed, and that we should recognize scientists, teachers and the like a lot more than we do now, but that doesn't mean sports and athletes don't have their place.

Oh, and, by the way, I was rooting with everything I had for the Packers (since I'm a Ravens fan). So, I was overjoyed at the outcome. Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers deserved it.

Like I said, it's still no excuse for how overly obsessed people are with sports and also no excuse for how much players are paid.

The social phenomenon is coming together to enjoy entertainment where there is common interest. If people go to a "game room" to play video games (which is very popular now because of online competition) that really isn't any different except that they aren't sitting in the same room. People glorify all sorts of things. Comic book nerds (like me) glorify collections, Comic book conventions, etc. and meeting guys like Stan Lee or other pioneers of it.
If you don't like the sport, that's fine, but to say that it's different than any other interest for some, I think is just subjection on your part.
