SOS message to Christian women and men: Do you accept the stoning of women for reasons of adultery

According to Bart Ehrman, author of "Misquoting Jesus", that narrative does not appear in scriptures written before the 10th Century AD and is therefore thought by scholars to be a late addition.
The passage in question was marked in published Bible translations as probable textual addition long before Ehrman was even born.

But if the principle He voiced were universally applied it would preclude all punishment for anything.
Which is probably why it is not Scripture.

The more brutal and destructive scriptures, on the other hand, do get applied.
Brutal to brutes, destructive of the destructive, perhaps. But in that case, they would be just the ones to complain, wouldn't they.

Do Christians stone people?

I had no idea I guess because I thought the new testament wasn't the old testament. :areyoucra

I see pedantry is alive and well. :D
:D It may appear a trifle fussy, but there is a tendency for the young and naive, who have precious little in their modern educations to warn them to do otherwise, to treat the likes of Ehrman as serious authorities.

But it's hot air, man.

I have heard that Ehrman is considered an authority in his field, but of course, you are as free as the next man to disagree.

Let me be frank, Kejos. There are several prominent sources I more or less respect who tell me Bart Erhman knows what he's talking about. On the other hand, there's you who tells me he doesn't. Now, who are you to me? I don't know you, you have no credentials with me, and though you have an opinion, I would be foolish to trust you, wouldn't I?

You see? That's your off-topic propaganda. Ehrman must be up to no good.

Nonsense. Why would I have referenced Ehrman's book if I didn't want the reader to make up his or her own mind about Ehrman? I find it fascinating how quickly and illogically you jump to conclusions. Do go on!
