Maybe dangerous misinformation shouldn't be protected by the 1st Amendment?
100%. But this can't be aimed one way. What happens when a critical malaria medication comes to be seen as horse medicine? What happens when untested medications cause massive spikes in heart problems or cancer, giving validity to dangerous conspiracy theorists who will now say all medications are bad? What happens when the governments actions lead to massive rises in missed Healthcare visits, child and spousal abuse, substance abuse, depression, etc? What about when an illness with barely any fatality rate for anyone not of retirement age leads to the government deciding who is essential and allowed to feed their family? Or to them deciding to decimate a child's education for no reason at all?

How odd. Steps taken to prevent the spread of an extremely virulent disease are even more effective when the disease is only moderately virulent in comparison.

Yearly deaths from influenza also dropped during that time, too

It's a shame that wearing masks has become demonized like it has post COVID considering how effective it is. If our culture in the USA had accepted it like it's accepted in most eastern countries, we could save some lives if folks just masked up when they weren't feeling well as a courtesy to others

I had the flu a couple of months ago.

I always find this question to be rather strange.

The whole world masked up and social distanced for like, 2 years to slow the spread of a virus, and people can't seem to figure out how instances of the flu also decreased? Seriously?
Covid seemed to spread like crazy while the Flu virtually vanished? Its possible that a lot of Covid cases were flu. Reimbursement rates to hospitals for Covid are higher than flu cases.

I'm thinking more along the lines of how flu shots were always in the news but its sort of been preempted by Covid concerns.

It is hard not to favor the left when the right is so enthusiastic about self-delusion and worse.
It's both ways though. Idk how anyone can favor either side. In fact, they're the same side, like wrestlers getting a drink together after the show .

Some say Covid was a conspiracy, but I disagree, I had it twice!
I think this here sums up how American politics finally lost me. On one side theres literally no illness and its all fabricated, which was obviously wrong. On the other side, everyone you've ever met is constantly on the verge of certain death which was also wrong. Neither cared in the slightest about reality or their citizens. Covid was postmodernism at its finest.

COVID was/is more easily transmittable than the flu and someone who has COVID is contagious for a longer period of time than someone with the flu.

"The speed of transmission is a major point of difference between the two viruses. In general, the flu has a shorter incubation period (the time from infection to appearance of symptoms) with an average of 2 days. Recent research shows that COVID-19, however, has an incubation period of around 5 days but can be anywhere from 1-14 days.

According to data from China, experts estimate that each person infected with the novel coronavirus infects between 2-3 others, which is twice as high as the seasonal flu. It’s also important for people to keep in mind – especially those who are young and healthy – that the coronavirus can be transmitted to others even if you are not presenting any symptoms

The problem is when all those old people dying flood hospitals all at once and all the other people who needed medical help can't get it because the hospital's resources are spent helping the influx of old and sickly people dying. Lockdown sucked but it saved lives, and I don't just mean COVID patients' lives

See I understand the need to protect the elderly from such illness, but considering we still supposedly had overflowing hospitals it doesn't seem lockdowns did anything good at all. Increased abuse, missed health screenings, addiction, suicidal thoughts, poverty, etc. sure but nothing to make it worth it. It's always interesting to see people take the stance they were obeying to help others, but apparently don't care about who they harmed.

I do wonder why Americans distrust governments so much?

Then you ignored what happened in other countries early on. Our hospitals were heavily burdened during the pandemic. The situation would have been far worse without the steps that we took. In many parts of the world people died because their governments did not act soon enough and many that needed treatment could not get any.

The problem is largely that to this day there are countless people that do not understand how masks work. I get so tired of hearing idiots say some variation of "that mask will not protect you". It was never about protecting oneself against others. It was about protecting others from oneself. It is almost as if they have no clue why nurses and doctors mask up in surgical wards. There concern is never about getting ill from cutting a patient open.

My husband always says, our mistake was being honest and telling people that the mask is to help others. Because people only care about themselves, apparently.

And never mind the fact that overwhelmed, overburdened and overflowing hospitals don't just affect COVID patients. If you got into a car accident, had a heart attack, accidentally sliced your hand open, etc. etc. that means you're not getting the care you need either.

I noticed in a recent trip (including flying)
to SD & WY thru MN that masks were
accepted as normal.

BTW, we met & talked to this guy, who
(oddly enuf) wasn't masked. Neither
were his staff. (We wore masks.)

This was in response to, "Did you just compare books to guns?"

So you did.

Guns actually take human life. Books do nothing of the sort. Rather, they expand and open the mind in all kinds of beneficial ways. More people should put their guns down and read some books.

Your comparison is ludicrous.
I disagree. I really think you don't understand the power of the written work.

Karl Marx's writing was the impetus to fuel the killing of millions. Words are just letters joined, they are spiritual words that move people to life or death. Porn brings death.

I've been an avid reader since I was 5 years old. I definitely do.

Guns are weapons, created to end life.
Books are stories, ideas, concepts etc., in written form.
Karl Marx's writing was the impetus to fuel the killing of millions. Words are just letters joined, they are spiritual words that move people to life or death.
It was human greed and lust for power that killed those millions. As far as I know, Marx never advocated genocide and crimes against humanity.
Even if he did, reading\writing about something and taking action on that something are two very different things, aren't they?
Porn brings death.
Nonsense. Unless it's snuff porn.

I have no idea why you're talking about porn anyway.
