The awful Education system of the US

It makes students not prepared for college, doesn't educate them enough for those jobs, and America has to pull in people from other countries to fill those positions that Americans can't get because they'd rather remain ignorant with dark age mythology than being themselves into the 21st first century. It hurts America because we have a ton of people who don't know the differences among hypothesis, theory, and law. It hurts America, because it consistently underperforms on academic tests.

I would also add that in a democracy, citizen will have to pronounce themselves on issues related to science like environmental policies. A weak understand of biology, ecology and physics makes those decisions uninformed and potentially disastrous.

But I did. And it's a pretty easy stat to find. A cursory research will allow you to find multiple credible sources confirming this. Since the early 2000's there has been a migration of highly educated voters from the Republican to the Democrat Party that many attribute to the influence of social conservatives in the GOP and the rise of the Tea Party completely reversing the historical trend of the Republican Party attracting most of the scholars and academics.

Where are they?

If it is so easy to find, and you make the claim, it should be simple enough for you to post the references. It IS NOT OUR JOB TO PROVE YOU WRONG. IT IS YOUR JOB TO SUPPORT YOUR CLAIM. (Yes, I was shouting. I needed to make that one very, very clear).

What an ignorant argument. There are thousands of people with master's degrees, whose IQ's are extremely high, who vote Republican. The proportions prove nothing in any way except for that they come to a conclusion.

...Good for them in coming to a useless conclusion that serves no purpose.
Here are the facts revealed to us through research.
Views of Higher Education Divided by Party
The share of Americans saying colleges and universities have a negative effect has increased by 12 percentage points since 2012. The increase in negative views has come almost entirely from Republicans and independents who lean Republican. From 2015 to 2019, the share saying colleges have a negative effect on the country went from 37% to 59% among this group. Over that same period, the views of Democrats and independents who lean Democratic have remained largely stable and overwhelmingly positive.
Ideological Gap Widens Between More, Less Educated Adults
More than half of those with postgraduate experience (54%) have either consistently liberal political values (31%) or mostly liberal values (23%), based on an analysis of their opinions about the role and performance of government, social issues, the environment and other topics. Fewer than half as many postgrads – roughly 12% of the public in 2015– have either consistently conservative (10%) or mostly conservative (14%) values. About one-in-five (22%) express a mix of liberal and conservative opinions.
America Is Divided by Education
According to exit polls, 61 percent of non-college-educated white voters cast their ballots for Republicans while just 45 percent of college-educated white voters did so. Meanwhile 53 percent of college-educated white voters cast their votes for Democrats compared with 37 percent of those without a degree.
Democrats more educated than Republicans, Pew Research Center survey finds
According to a Pew Research Center poll released this week, Democrats are now the party of college graduates, especially those with post-graduate work. Meanwhile, people with a high-school degree or less, by far the larger group, slightly lean toward Republicans.

Indeed, I am forcibly reminded of that unforgettable exchange between Reagan and an idiotic reporter who asked him if he wasn't too old to be president.

It might not be the best example. He was suspected to display signs of dementia in his last years of office.

Where are they?

FOR A PERSON WHO CLAIMS WISDOM AND INTELLIGENCE YOU SURE ARE LAZY AND CAN'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO USE GOOGLE TO MAKE SOME BASIC RESEARCH ON A SUBJECT. WISDOM IS LEARNING BEFORE TALKING NOT THE OPPOSITE. I HOPE THE CAPLOCK TEXT WILL HELP YOU REMEMBER THAT NOBODY OWES YOU A RESEARCH PAPER UNLESS YOU INTEND TO PAY THEM FOR IT. IT SHOULD BE SIMPLE ENOUGH FOR YOU TO GET THE REFERENCES AND MAKE SOME RESEARCH ON YOUR OWN IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SOMEONE.

Second, noting that you aren't even thirty five yet is an acknowledgement that under my theory of university indoctrination, you aren't old enough yet to become wise. ...and therefore, conservative. ;)
Yup. As I said, just a way to make yourself feel better. (I used to be very conservative, by the way) Or, alternatively, a way to make it easy to dismiss claims against your own when you can brush opposition off as unwise.

On internet forums, the burden of evidence is always on the one making the claim. If one is not willing to back it up, then don't even mention it.

So what's the point? That every single Republican is uneducated? Are you attempting to display some kind of symbolic trophy? Is this supposed to convince me that I should submit to the Democrats because they're wiser as a group?

...I'm not seeing the 'big picture' on why this is important. Why do you think this is important?

It's not about me being to lazy to prove you wrong, and your calling me that is simply an ad hominem attack that is illogical and against all the rules.

It is your job to support your claims, when you make them, it is NOT my job to do your homework for you.

And thank you for giving us the references. I'm sorry you had to accompany them with personal insults.

neither is it my job to do YOUR homework. If you want to have an intelligent conversation and be considered intelligent, do what it requires and make at least a cursory research on google or wikipedia (you don't need anything fancy at a basic level) before you engage yourself or else you will come off as an idiot who demands to be force fed basic essential information without which the conversation itself shouldn't even take place. For any intelligent conversation a certain level of basic knowledge is expected. If you want to talk about voter's demographic in the US, you should know those basic numbers before the conversation starts or be willing to play catch up by yourself. If not, you can be accused of being obtuse or even of "sea-lioning". Even if it doesn't amount to the that, I would certainly not claim special wisdom and intelligence in that field.

PS: If you demand respect and cannot stand the sight of the smallest ad hominem thrown your way, I would refrain from usin caplock texts or making quips about your opposition being stupider than you (or puffing up your own intelligence). This exposes you to a treatment in kind.

You have a reasonnably good system of lower education, but weakenned by its inequalities, with an excellent higher education system,
Agreed. Of the 20 most industrialize nations, we are the only one that spends less on the education of the poor than with middle and upper-income students.

The US might not remain number 1 for very long as China is growing and threatening its place, but thanks to those characterisitcs, it will remain an important player in the world for centuries.
Again, I agree.

Yup. As I said, just a way to make yourself feel better.
I notice that it's the left leaning posters who post
about studies proving themselves smarter.
Is this too for them to feel better?

Interesting thing though....when liberals are
shown smarter, what kind of "liberal" is it?
Democrats assume them, but many are
most illiberal in the other sense of the word.

Well if it can make you feel even better libertarians (that is, in this context, people who are economically conservative or very pro-capital) and socially liberal (so very pro human rights and individual freedom) are the most educated demographic in the US. :p

So it’s been like this running joke for as long as I can remember to lambast the US lower levels of education as inherently flawed. Awful. Lagging.
But I mean is that really accurate?
Well, I wouldn't say the US lower levels of education is inherently flawed, but abysmally supported..

You Americanstan RFers seem reasonably well educated. (Some questionable sex Ed posts notwithstanding.)
Need more or better sex education do we. Personally, the only area I see that needs to be changed is our Victorian attitude toward sex and nudity.

So help me understand what the US education system is really like. What are your experiences? Your issues with curriculum? Your praises? Are some subjects taught better than others?
Is it as jingoistic as some like to claim?

Have at it. Defend or tear to shreds the schooling system of the US.
Whoa . . . . This is like asking to explain our Nation's defense posture in the world. One subject at a time please.

We get so much anecdotal evidence around here from so many of the posters, it's hard to tell what's real and what's not. Time to put up or shut up.
