The Grand Jury is In

Kentucky grand jury decides no criminal charges are brought against the police officers
in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor. They are bracing for the worst.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
When I took the test for a police officer when I was younger as a lot of young people did in my day, one of my fellow candidates had an interesting take on the prospect of becoming an officer.

I've read this earlier and it's heart breaking. So, basically, they're saying that Breonna Taylor's death was justified? Sigh.

Legislation needs to change as well regarding ''no knock'' laws and so on.

No one is listening. Nothing is changing. And every few weeks another citizen is killed at the hands of cops doing stupid things. What are we going to have to do to get their attention, and make them change?

I expect consequences similar to the Los Angeles riots in the spring of 1992 following the trial of four police officers acquitted in the "Rodney King" beating. Current consequences to be determined.

There is no constructive answer that is not grounded in civic engagement.

It is hard to believe in the system when the system actively protects officers involved in the death of citizens they were charged to protect. Look, they charged her boyfriend with attempted murder for defending himself (it was eventually dropped) and the officers involved got off free for actually killing someone. Then, the family receives a settlement as hush money for them to go away.

Nothing has changed and this is a huge middle finger to all those watching in hope of justice.

Riots are the least of what a system that protects murderers deserves. Time for a revolution. When is enough going to be enough in this country?

But no one in control is listening. And not enough of the rest of us are willing to care about the well-being of others. As long as the cops aren't shooting at us, we really just don't care. Our culture has became an 'every man for himself' environment. A few people rise up, speak out, and then are lost in the sea of greed and stupidity that has become the United States of America.

I agree, but revolutions are VERY costly; in blood, in money, in freedom, in peace, in security, in everything that matters to us. And in the end they very often just replace one set of tyrants with another.

It's going to happen eventually. Conditions in this country are making it inevitable. We can only play pretend for so much longer. The facade is falling apart more and more. I need to look into learning survival skills and self-defense. Might need to get a gun, after all.

Maybe. I'm old, so I could die for the cause without much regret. Or be snuffed out by the tyrants without much notice. It's the young who're going to have to deal with this mess. And so far they seem to be mostly oblivious. Ripe for even more exploitation and abuse.

We (older generations) should be ashamed of ourselves for having failed them so badly, but we're too stupid and selfish to even be ashamed. It's heartbreaking.

And we end up getting the Government we deserve. There is no law that assures the triumph of good.

There is, however, a silver lining. Some forty percent of the country is, to one degree or another, neofascist compliant, but the rest are becoming increasingly aware - and simple awareness is often curative. We've moved from a country where Kaepernick was an outcast to one where BLM is on the cusp of becoming mainstream. The task is to keep on keeping on as we keep track of the far too many George Floyds and Breonna Taylors who will be lynched or gunned down along the way.

But first: Vote.

I'm not sure how oblivious we are. Many of my generation (millennials) know things are FUBAR but it's the old farts (sorry, not sorry) who are in power and running society into the ground, such as the geriatrics in both houses of Congress and the White House. Nothing will ever change as long as we keep putting elderly career politicians in power. Having a bunch of old people run your country seems to be a marker of decline, to be honest. They should be retired.

You live in a country that affords you that opportunity to retire them every four-six years. If you can do better, then you get up off your self righteous indignation and you run for office.

Get an army and lay the law down yourself.

Unfortunately my army is on indefinite backorder. Intergalactic parts shortage.
