Plugging that author into Google leads us 2 this site -

"How lovely to think that no one need wait a moment. We can start now, start slowly, changing the world. How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make a contribution toward introducing justice straightaway. And you can always, always give something, even if it is only kindness!"

"In all truly sacred traditions there is an essential resolve to cherish life and treat others ethically and kindly. All these traditions encourage us to be open to divine presence, both within and without, and tell us 'to practice what we preach' without hypocrisy or sleight of hand. For many, this message is of essential importance no matter who is carrying it."

~ Lama Surya Das

The holiday season has the potential to bring out the best in us. Though the days get shorter and colder, somehow our hearts get bigger and warmer.

Maybe it’s the thoughtfulness handwritten on Christmas cards, maybe it’s the focus on giving over receiving, or maybe it’s the anticipation of celebration with people we love.

For many, it’s the reminder of what’s important in life—not what we do, what we earn, or what we buy, but how we treat each other, how we help each other, and how we use our gifts to make the world a better place.

A dear friend of mine also observed something very similar about the nature of the Winter Solstice - that when we get to the shortest day of the year, with darkness at its maximum that very fact supports our hearts opening.

It's the exact opposite down here in Australia! Hot weather and longer days ...

Pity if we are only kind to each other one day/season out of the year!

Cheers.
