The Kindness Box

One of the good life tips you’ll need to follow is to be kind to others. By being kind to others, it’s far more likely that people will be kind to you. Thus, allowing you to live a good life. Sometimes, people take out their frustrations out on other people which causes more issues down the road. However, if you go out of your way to wish someone a happy birthday or say kind words to someone in need, you’ll be remembered as a kind person. Do acts of kindness so that you put more good into the world. The more good there is in the world, the more good you’ll also benefit from, even if indirectly.

We can all agree that the world would be a better place if more people were kind and considerate. And we know that to make the world a better place, kindness starts with each of us. But there are situations when we think we are being kind when, in fact, we are just going through the motions.

How often do you say to yourself, “I should” or “I shouldn’t?” I should do the laundry. I shouldn’t have that extra cookie. I should call my aunt. I shouldn’t go out tonight. I should check in on my friend. There are so many shoulds and shouldn’ts we confront every day that we make our lives so much heavier than they need to be.

In End the Struggle and Dance with Life, Susan wrote, “So much of the weight of our lives comes from the huge amount of shoulds and shouldn’ts others try to impose upon us and, ultimately, those we impose on ourselves. Shoulds and shouldn’ts are signs of our need to conform. It is better that we learn to follow our heart…to follow our instinct about the way life is best lived for who we are as human beings.”

Kindness treat people better

For example -

You may be wondering exactly what being kind has to do with a trash company. Usually, the answer would be nothing. But since we’re talking about Granger in particular, the answer is EVERYTHING.

More than 50 years ago, this company was started by three Granger brothers and built on the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is all about being kind, and living by it continues to be our mantra to this day. As you may or may not know, the Golden Rule (although it’s not referred by that term specifically in the Bible) figures prominently in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. It is referenced in the verse Matthew 7:12 (and others) and says “So in everything you do, do unto others as you would have them do to you.” Seems pretty simple, and it goes without saying that we would like people to be kind to us so that’s what we should be to them.

So why not find a few ways to be kind to one another? Need some ideas? We just happen to have a few:

Kindness is to live to one’s essence.
The core of Taoism is about kindness.

The sage releases their own stories, while accepting the stories of others.
The sage is kind to the kind and also kind to the unkind: for virtue is holding to kindness.
Being as a child, within grace, when allowing ourselves to perceive and embrace essence without judgment.
Tao Te Ching,Chapter 49

After a young boy’s woodworking project went viral, he seized on his new internet following to raise money—not for himself—but for the children of Ukraine.

The power of a viral social media post never ceases to astound. When Gabriel Clarkie’s proud dad tweeted a link to his son’s hobby, carving wooden bowls and posting them for sale on Instagram, it went viral—and his Insta followers jumped from 6 to 227,000 in just 48 hours.

“First and foremost, we need to be the adults we want our children to be. We should watch our own gossiping and anger. We should model the kindness we want to see.”

The Meaning of Benevolence

The simple definition of the word is a desire to do good to others, to be charitable, to act kindly. I think of the word as expansive and encompassing. It is not like a watering hose we use to douse this or that plant but more like a 360 degree sprinkler head that shoots a spray indiscriminately outward. Benevolence casts a broad net of goodwill to all who come within its radius. As such, it is an attitude, a paradigm, a place I “come from” that extends a deep sense of respect, warmth, generosity and concern to others as well as oneself.

Most of us would agree that the world needs more benevolence. We have become so agitated, intolerant, and polarized in the U.S. and around the world. We not only disagree but demonize those whose values or opinions differ from our own.

At the risk of really labouring the point -

As I look around I can’t help but wonder if we as individuals, and collectively as a culture, are over time becoming increasingly devoid of benevolence?

I guess first I should ask if you know what the word benevolence means to you before you should be expected to answer that question. Unfortunately, it is rarely referred to these days but is a word which imbibes an attitude that should be held in the highest regard.

Benevolence is an inclination to be kind and a disposition to do well.

An act intending or showing kindness and goodwill is an expression of benevolence. It is what makes the world a better place!

Many of you have likely heard the saying “an apple a day will keep the doctor away.”

I would like to be so bold as to say that “a benevolent act a day can easily keep the blues away!”

Compassionate Bible Verses About Kindness

For example -

Colossians 3:12–13

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Create Meaning By Helping Others (Without Doing it for Validation)

Why are you here on this earth? What is your purpose? What are you supposed to be doing with your life? These deep questions burn in all of us. Our souls’ desire is to lead fulfilling lives that have meaning.

My life’s journey has always been linked to helping other people; I just never saw it as serving them. As I have grown to know myself, I have discovered that I have this huge heart that wants the best for myself and for others. I now live to serve, and this brings me great fulfillment.

I pledge to fill my thoughts with gratitude and kindness,
To persevere and overcome with dignity and elegance,
To live in the moment, learn from the past and plan for the future,
To broaden my mind, strengthen my character and deepen my spirituality,
To see the best in others and in myself,
To laugh and play and bless and serve.
