The nation's governments are in competition with God's Kingdom government. So, instead of ruling together, God is supposed to destroy them. They are competition. OR (as I believe) God's Kingdom is for ruling over them forever and each of them is for ruling locally. Romans 13:1 1 Timothy 2:2 Titus 3:1. But, Daniel, as written, says that they will all be done away with. Doesn't it?

Right now government is populated by people who lie, cheat, steal, dominate, fear etc. In God's Kingdom, there will still be government but populated by those with different root motivations of love, service and bringing people together not seeking to divide them. That's how I see it, anyway.
