That's a good choice of batter from my experience. I haven't really deep fried anything in a while. I do like homemade fries deep fried. Something about them fresh cut and fried that tastes better to me. Could be the oil too.

I ran across a recipe for tempura tarantula once. I'd try it. It's deep fried. How bad could it be?

I'd give it a go. I've heard they're ok as long as you burn the hair off.

We have a winner! I was shocked when I learned that lard is "heart healthy" And when it comes to making a pie it is the oil that will have the highest amount of mono-unsaturated fats. And other benefits as well:

Yep! They have urticating hairs that can be unpleasant and uncomfortable. I've seen footage of native Amazonians eating the large bird tarantulas by first burning off the hairs and then roasting them in banana leaves. They ate them like crabs. That makes sense given the structural similarity and size.

That really strikes me as unexpected.

If we hadn't been talking about it, I wouldn't have known.

I like butter and the flavor of it. I can't recall what lard tastes like it has been so long since I've eaten it with anything.

I have to admit lard makes good savoury pastry. My grandmother made a mean steak and kidney pie and the pastry had lard in it. Then lard became the devils food and got replaced by vegetable oils. Turns out our grandparents had it right.

It tastes better. It is a bit more difficult to work with from what I have heard, but my mother made the transition. Her pie crusts were amazing. But my brother had become a Seventh Day Adventist and they follow the kosher laws of the Bible so she changed how she made her pies. With butter one has to work a bit faster to keep it from melting, and of course one never wants to overwork the dough.

There's another dish I would like to try.

That's too hard.

As soon as I receive your application, I’ll send you a tomst containing two digital books. One of them is a strategy book for making your locality mayonnaise-free. The other is a recipe book that suggests hummus, yogurt, sour cream, avocado, and a few other things as mayonnaise replacements. I’m sure that you can complete the application!

Once you get used to it it's not too bad, has to be cold chopped butter. When I went to America my wife introduced me to crisco, can't buy it here.

I am wondering if my favorite carnitas tacos are cooked in lard. From what I have read in Mexico they would have been made that way. They are so good that I feel that they may be. At least I don't have to worry about a heart attack from them.

I'm OK with it. Obviously, I spent my childhood eating a lot of it. I just can't recall what it tastes like.

Yeah, Cisco is loaded with polyunsaturated fats. Or at least it used to be. That would have come in last in the contest. Or perhaps cocoanut oil might be worse when it comes to heart healthy. I have some Crisco in the house. Why? I don't know.

And her butter pie crust was also unbelievably good. Even a pie from the best bakery totally sucks in comparison.
