My wife has a system where if a light switch doesn't turn on or off the light she wants it to then she'll flick it rapidly 10 or 12 times hoping for a different result.
My parents bought the house where I grew up in 1970. There was a switch on the wall at the bottom of the stairs that didn't appear to operate anything. I'm assuming it was supposed to turn the upstairs lights on and off. My folks never fixed it, which is funny considering my father was an electrician. I and my brother would flick it almost every time we passed by it. Don't know why. Something a kid would do I guess.

I thought it would be funny if somewhere out there in the world there were people wondering why their light kept going off and on for no reason.

We all have our things.

That went from nice innocent childhood anecdote to evil wishing harm on others.
