We had a dog, November 5 (+ a couple of weeks before and after) and new year were horrendous for her. So i can understand your dogs reaction.

In your case I'd suggest otc herbal sleeping tablets.

I prefer wandering the streets at 3am looking for the screaming Bush Stone-curlew which doesn't have the decency to know it's supposed to be extinct in my area. I'm sure the neighbourhood would prefer I try herbal sleeping tablets or
