That sounds like my ex's mom. She loves the Kevin Smith movies, and her favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails and Godsmack. She's way super-cool, laid back, very accepting, caring, and loving, but she turns into mamma bear if you mess with her kids.
My mom looks like this sweet little grandmotherly type, talks like it too, but then you hear her listening to music or dancing to this in her kitchen and...yeah...perception blown.
It was actually this song that introduced her to Trent Reznor. She's always been a big Bowie fan.

Now, my mother-in-law, she actually reminds me more of my grandmother. She really is the sweet little old lady who bakes cookies and goes to church and such. I don't quite know how well those two women would hit it off (may never meet as my mother is here in Iowa and his is in New York). Probably be okay until certain things came up for discussion. My mother is very liberal. :p

I too am a fan of Bowie and I have always like that song, also like Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. But Trent Reznor was around before that. "I'm afraid of Americans" came out in 1997 and 1995 Nine inch nails had already released 2 albums. The second was Downward spiral in 1994 which did pretty good and was quite poplar

Reznor and Bowie worked together a few times

Spiders are my friends as long as they stay out of sight and eat other bugs. I've told them that.

I know that NIN has been around a lot longer than that song. I've been a fan since forever (I started my love with Pretty Hate Machine ;) ). I was just saying that it was that particular song that introduced her to Reznor. It was only after that song that I could get her to listen to NIN albums and then she found she liked them. :p

I already mentioned to Draka that I've opened the canister and found live bugs in there. I don't trust my shop vac.
Oh, dear....but this gives you an opportunity to fix them with a rattle can flame thrower....

But be sure to aim it in the right direction.

:p I honestly don't know. Haven't asked her. Perhaps I'll just play it on my tablet when I'm over for Easter dinner and see what reaction I get. ;) Though, as I said, by her own admission one of her favorite movies is Dogma. I believe she has it on DVD. Now, given some of the language and material in it (and the fact that she is Catholic), I don't think Closer would offend her very much.

Beautiful example...clips from Dogma.

Your mom and my mom would probably like each other. My mom is a bleeding heart liberal as well and one of the most rational and wisdom-filled women I know. "Closer" might be a bit much for her, however. Although, I think she'd laugh out of shock when she heard the lyrics. Let's both play it for our moms and compare outcomes. :p

I think I just may do that. I'll get her to listen to it and report back.

Well, this is fun. Just got home and found that my cat scaled the drapes in the dining room and pulled them down again. So, not really thinking that I just came in from snow and slush, I grabbed the dining chair and climbed my short butt up to hang the drapes again and when I stepped down my wet shoe hit the linoleum and...wheeeeeee.....THUMP. Landed hard on my right hip. Hard. It hurts. It's throbbing. I'm getting tears in my eyes every once and a while from the pain. Yep. Fun fun fun.

Stand on your left leg and slowly lift the right leg directly in front of you. If you get a sudden tight, painful feeling either in the hip joint or on the point of bone on the hip go see a doctor. It sounds like you either got a hip pointer (nothing) or tore cartilage (something). If it's cartilage the tight thing will happen.
