I packed on around 40lbs when preggers with my son (still have no idea how) and didn't get any of it lost before getting preggers with my daughter, which I gained about 20lbs with. I've finally shed all that and am working on even more...just because I want to. :p

As Revoltingest can attest, I'm one of those idiots who works out all the time to make up for a lack of personality. I suggest 45 minutes of cardio, as early in the day as you can get it. Target a pulse rate of 115 to 130 by the 20 minute mark, and hold that until the end. Or, you know, every time you eat, stick your finger down your throat.

I think I'll stick to what has lost me the 60lbs so far. Simply watching portions, counting calories, and reasonable/moderate exercise. I do see commercials for weight loss pills and programs and the like and I think "that isn't necessary at all! If you can do math and you can get off your couch, you can lose weight."

Building muscles is the most effective way of burning calories and losing weight. Even when you are at rest (even sleeping) muscles burn calories. I have seen the figures for this, it's no contest. Cardio only burns calories while you are doing it, and for a short while after, while muscles burn calories 24/7. And if you have a suitable high intensity routine, 2 or 3 sessions per week of 30-40 minutes with weights is all you need to do.

Yoga is useless for losing weight BTW. It does not build significant muscle mass, does not raise the heartrate for any significant time, and slows the metabolism. I stll recommend it though.

Becoming a vegetarian (who doesn't eat sweets and drink sodapop or excesssive alcohol), plus weight training, is probably the healthiest fast track to permanent weight loss. And feeling fantastic. And eating as much as you like.

Wow, you surprise me, I agree with all those :D

I would add quitting cigarrettes and coffee :p (don´t tend to go well with vegetarianism)

A friend who had like 145 cm of belly went down to 132 with less than amonth of weight training.

Also I will add that instead of doing jogging and such kinds of cardio, sprinting is awesome way to lose weight. Sprinting makes your metabolism go boom!

The idea is to jugg or walk some for warming up, then you sprint for example 5 to 10 secs AS FAST as you can, acelerating continually. Then yu rest walking and jugging. Then you sprint 2 more times. Do this 3 times a week, and you will lose weight like crazy, much more that if you had jugged every day.

Also, the bad thing with jugging is that it makes your body use carbs in a "smarter" way. This means it will use less carbs for the same duration of exercise. With sprinting on the other hand, then only thing your body cares is that you become faster and ready to go off when you need it.

Sprint and lift heavy weights.

That´s the road to losing weight.

Oh, and well I might as well say what I´ve been doing too.

I have lost 8 cms of belly in less than amonth. I was around 78, now I am 70. What I did was simply cutting (almost) all the carbs from my diet. Eating (very) little food but eating each 3 hours. Making exceptions the days I did weights so after weights (like today) having a full meal with carbs and all. I ate peanut butter with soy and rice, lettuce nuts and bananas

Delicious! :drool::drool:

Yeah, biology isn't a matter of personal opinion ;)

I've been doing a gym instructor/personal training course online, and it really is worth studying how the body works. I've come from the other end, I was chronically underweight for most of my life, and was manic, with a high metabolism, and a diet consisting of not much plus cigarettes and caffeine. All day. I had a resting heartrate of 90-100 for most of my life until about 5 years ago, and weighed under 60kg.

Then I started doing gym and yoga. Lots of it. Huge changes. About 10kg (22lbs) of mostly muscle added. A resting heart rate usually in the low 50s, maybe 60 sometimes. I had to learn to eat enough. For a few years I kept forgetting to put enough food in and wondered why I was only very slowly building up, despite doing fairly high intensity workouts regularly.

Then I discovered the awesome power of the peanut butter, jelly (jam here in Oz) and banana sandwiches between meals ! Washed down with lots of milk or milk + egg. The Elvis Presley heartstopper was my salvation !

Nice! :D

Oh I forgot an important random meaningless anouncement:

Since my break up with my gf I had lost a lot of apetite (well, after eating all the ice cream that specific night) so I decided to put it in good use and start a diet. I committed to see my abs by the end of the month, so to get something good from my post break up depression... I´ve been eating well, it´s just that I´ts been easier to eat few so I did now (wich some little sins here and there, but almost none ;) )

Today... I FINALLY SEE THE VERY PALE SHADOW OF MY ABS!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YESSS!!!!!!

Hopefully by end of month they will be more notorious! :D

Weight training does help a person lose weight, but you need aerobic type exercise to burn calories. And according to the nutritionists I had to have a class with when I found out I had diabetes, you have to take in less calories than you burn. :)

Yes but they burn too little and in time the burn less for the same exercise.

Anaerobic is better.

Maybe you missed the detail in my post, but building muscles means you burn calories 24/7, even at rest. Muscles constantly use energy i.e. burn calories. I can't remember the exact figures , but basically by adding a few kilos of lean muscle, your body will start burning more calories than you could reasonably expect to burn via aerobic exercise.

Your nutritionist is right, calories out must exceed calories in to lose weight. But only recently has it been established that building muscle is a more efficient way to burn calories, and lots of people haven't found that out yet. Cardio is still good though, it keeps the heart strong.

Rhaponticum Carthamoides. You'll love it. A natural anabolic/adaptogen. Google it, and you'll read about ecdysterone. You can also get the root from some suppliers, which is probably the way to go IMO.

Arguments go on about how anabolic it is, but I can tell you for sure that it makes you feel fantastic .The pleasure you get from your body when you work out is quite pronounced. A unique kind of high - sheer pleasure of physical activity. My experience told me it is also anabolic in sufficient dose. No longer available in Australia, but it is available in USA. Very good tonic too, like maca powder. Tests report it is good for the liver and various other health benefits.

I think a lot of women are hesitant about weight training because they think they are going to get too muscular or bulky. Personally, I think muscle tone is sexy on a woman. I think most women want a softer, more "feminine" look to their bodies. They connect muscle with masculinity and avoid weights.

True. But they're nothing wrong with a curvy girl. And I mean nothing. I've actually always found women who are a little chunky more attractive. Call it whimsy, or maybe that they are more realistic about every single thing on earth.

No women I know who lift weights (a bunch) get noticeably more muscular, even those who work out a lot.
It is an extraordinary few who reach this level.....

I got quite muscular when I was seriously into weightlifting when I was younger. I didn't get anywhere close to that woman, but I was noticeably muscular. Then again, I did it intentionally. What I'm saying is that many women get this idea that if they use anything more than little aerobic weights that they will end up looking "hard" and so avoid real weight training.
