The solution is to arm every person in America

OK, maybe I'm using the wrong technical term
Don't worry about it because if you've ever heard one of these semi-automatics like an AR-15 being fired off rapidly, you can hardly tell the difference. The fact of the matter is that they can kill a lot of people in a relatively short period of time, especially with the larger magazines being used.

I despair for the USA - keep it up, I look forward with trepidation to the next massacre of school children, innocent shoppers or revellers at a bar. I'm so glad I live in a sensible country where guns are used for sporting not political reasons.

The pro-gun arguments are rehearsed, tried and tested - and the supporters pile in and criticise my knowledge of terminology and even my spelling. Well done lads, keep praying it's not your kids school the next nutter picks.

Yep. And those whom are most directly affected by these mass killings are often in the forefront pushing for more sane laws.

Your country doesn't have a national army? Interesting.

The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here. The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. Law-abiding persons complied with the law, but the Communists and Nazis committing acts of political violence did not.

The Nazis were proud of keeping their trains running on time as well.

Maybe that is a reason to avoid having ours do likewise?

The firearms of those times used by Americans breaking from Britain matched
the weapons of the army of Britain.
Today civilians weapons match those of the military.
Small arms of course.
Not attack helicopters, tanks, and such.
An armed rebellion of Americans against the Federal Gov'ment would be
SUICIDE.
Agreed. For one thing, I doubt civilian armed drones are allowed by law.

Not sure what point you mean to make here, as a matter of fact.
No one is preaching an armed rebellion now are they?
I have heard the claim that the 2nd is meant to ensure that possibility, which is apparently a very important thing for many people.

Probably that was a concern when it was written.
It's a greater concern now.

"There are now between 270-310 million guns in private hands."
Now google up crime stats and see how many of those guns are used to
commit crimes.
It would take a monumental effort to ensure they are all registered.
From the number there are many more pro than anti.

Part of the reason, perhaps main reason, why U.S. has a 2A. Get past a country's military and what will unarmed citizens do? Surrender?
Good grief, if the US is ever defeated a load of gun nuts won't be much use against nuclear weapons, drones, etc.

Yep, bringing a gun to a nuclear arms battle doesn't make sense to me. But if there is any desire to live on that land after the battle, guns might be perceived as a tool, helpful to survival.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, please.
Nukes? Nothing will stop nukes.
Drones? Sure can be shot down if a person has a good rifle and marksmanship.
Want to down a drone? Buy a remote control "toy" plane and ram the thing.
In an armed insurrection things can and do get done.
Viet Nam? Who was the enemy?
The rice farmer by day, soldier by night.
Guns for the civilians were supplied and hidden everywhere.

Now THAT ^^^^^^^^^^^ was an insulting backhanded slap and beneath your
dignity.

Oh. You live in the U.K. where civilians aren't trusted by their own government.

Here:
See this for a list of countries with homicide rate far in excess of the U.S.
http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/VC.IHR.PSRC.P5
Be ready to be surprised that the U.K. is included.

You could educate yourself prior to posting mere opinions please.

Understand I served over 22 years in a violent small city with a homicide
rate far out of proportion to it's population and witnessed a LOT of violent
death.
I might know a bit of which I speak.
I've been shot at, once pinned down for over THREE hours and NEVER, not
once shot at another human.
Not once. I just didn't want to kill anyone if avoidable.
I'm soooooooooooooo, glad I never had to take a life.
(but I sure beat snot out of a few a$$holes.)

If you are going to compare us to Germany in this area, do you think it's OK to compare Trump to Hitler? ;)

BTW, the issue of gun control goes back way before the Weimar-- even in old Dodge City they were smart enough to know that allowing guns to be carried freely by anyone was a recipe for disaster.

In Alaska we can pack concealed, or open-carry, - and we do, including me, - and we do NOT have a problem from such.

EDIT - Forgot to say it is the law here. Anyone 18 and over who doesn't have a criminal record can own and pack concealed or open-carry without a license.

Just like the old west - the rule is don't take them into government buildings, or bars.

............ so you might support a number of changes?
Regulation which would include...
Total ban on Assault type rifles (no possible civilian use)
Criminal Record checks.
Mandatory training courses and examinations.
Licensing.
Mandatory 3rd party insurance cover for carrying in public places.
Firearms Control Officer visit to ensure safety and security is adequate.

Police powers to seize and crush any illicit guns found.
Then in about a century your Great Grandchildren might benefit?
