The Upcoming UK General Election

I won't be voting.

I have always voted since I was able, but this year I can't vote for any party on principle. I am not a left-winger/socialist and won't be voting for any party with this as an economic base; nor will I vote for a party that is radically socially left and was so wishy-washy on Brexit it was embarrassing. I'm a strong capitalist with fairly socially conservative beliefs and won't be voting as no party reflects even 6/10 of what I'd vote for. I'd consider myself to be voting for another disaster. I'm not a Neo-Liberal/Thatcherite, nor am I socialistic.

Whichever party we get, I hope they at least deal with the Israel-Palestine issue fairly, recognising that Israel has not been seen as the good guy for months now, and has been a dodgy ally at best. We ought recognise the Palestinian state.

They ought fix the housing crisis and homelessness problem, without taxing even more of my wages. There are plenty of 19th c. 2 up-2 downs that would work for small families, but no-one seems to be doing anything with these houses. Presumably as most of them are Northern, oh dear.

They ought fix the migrant boat issue.

They ought fix the crisis hitting the universities re funding, student accommodation and student poverty. For too long we relied on foreign students, which is in my view morally wrong.

They ought fix issues facing the North-East, where child poverty, suicide, drug abuse and so on are the worst in England.

But I will not be counting on any of these things.
I'm one of those socialists, but I would honestly vote for the tories if I thought they'd fix these issues. I agree with you that this is not likely to happen with any party on offer.

The migrant boat issue aside, I don't think they would even be that difficult to fix, just politically untenable.

Have you got your beer in the fridge?
If there's one positive thing Rish! may be remembered for, it could be his putting the UK out of its misery earlier than he technically had to (however self-serving his actual motive may or may not have been). Or perhaps he just had a fit of the lemmings.

I hope Labour ─ or whichever other non-Tory party wins ─ gets a majority in its own right because the UK desperately needs a clear set of goals and speedy attention to sound governance at last.

It's almost like they should have a Truth Commission such as South Africa had at the end of apartheid, to set down an account of how such a set of Conservative clowns could actually get to be in charge of England, Scotland, Wales and, at least for now, Northern Ireland. Cameron (forever the Brexit man but probably the best of them, so low is the bar), May, Johnson, Truss (that last pair vie for bottom place ─ Johnson did more damage but it took him longer than Truss), and the ineffectual but richly shod Sunak.

Betty must be glad she left when she did.

So, in the next few months our PM has to call a GE, latest I believe is January 2025.

The main runners and riders are: -

  • Conservative
  • Green
  • Labour
  • Lib Dems
  • Reform Ltd
In the regions we also have
  • Plaid Cymru (Wales)
  • SNP (Scotland)
And Northern Ireland has
  • Alliance Party
  • Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)
  • Green Party
  • Sinn Féin (SF)
  • Social Democratic Labour Party (SDLP)

There will be others but our electoral system excludes them as it is first past the post.

What great choices we have,Sunak so rich and so far detatched from reality , Starmer too scared to say "a woman doesn't have a penis" with a membership of terrorist led palestine supporters, theres even talk of comrade Jeremy Corbyn and Hamas friend running as an independent, all the looney left will be coming out in their drtoves.

The green party?,not worth a mention,Lib dems, consistently comedic,Reform, interesting one in that Labour since liar Blair and conservative since Thatcher, arguably the most hated prime minister in our history we have Reform which may do well, this shows the state of our political parties that they will with the dreaded Nigel Farage running,i'm sure Labour will win,i'm certain things will get much worse.

Admit it, you're an anarcho-syndicalist.

Things will get better under Labour, nothing could be worse than it is now. The problem will be how soon?
The Tories have bankrupted the country and lost their "We are best for the economy" tag line.
I'd vote Green or LibDem if we had PR, but will vote Labour as they have the best chance of winning in my true blue constituency.

I'd vote Monster Raving if it helped get rid of these closet fascists.
