The War on Christmas

Violet.
Ownership rights over fun always get me riled up.

My girls were just down here arguing about the my little pony teapot house.

"I want it this way!".... "but I had it first!"

One wanted it as a house for the pet shop dogs.
The other for the butterflies.

i told them to make it a two family house.
One on one side. One on the other.

it starts young.

Thanks for the goody two shoes sentiment. It doesn't matter who is right, just let's all play nice.
Is this a debate forum or a nursery?

Now that you mention it, I still want to know where you get the OURS from when discussing pagan origins?

It's a debate forum that encourages tolerance and demands civility.

One quite funny thing is that the ancient nordic celebration that occurred on a date closest to modern day christmas was the "alfablot", a feast for the worship of what can be called gnomes/elves (in swedish "tomtar" wich is the same word we use for santa... Like santa worship...). One folk-expression that the christening clergy of my country never managed to totally wipe out, though they tried hard for a thousand years, is to put a bowl of porridge with a big scoop of butter at the corner of the house to please the house-gnomes . Some still do it!

I read a fiction novel where the house gnomes were only satisfied if they received a good steamy bowl of porridge as payment for household chores. I never realized that this was based on reality. That's wonderful =D

Oh? I see somebody has low-tolerance for religious tolerance.

Aparantely it's a nursery.

Apparently. :p

Sojourner: when I said that it makes no difference except in a personal sense, I was referring to the persons spiritual walk.lol.
Everyone else: why should we fight over christmas? I celebrate solstice, every December 21st. You know, ON the solstice! I love that day, its the longest night. I spent years as a pagan. I see the pagan christmas symbols as a nice harmony between 2 beliefs. If its true that Catholicism STOLE the christmas season, then so be it! If you're pagan, don't let the Christians use of YOUR symbols control your emotions! If you're Christian, don't let the pagans ruin your own Christs Mass! Let all meet in the middle and be catholic!!!

I celebrate the birthdays of numerous people that I don't care about throughout the year. Of course, bribing me with cake is the only thing that gets me out of my cube.

At Genesis (40:20-22) and Matthew (14:6-10) is an unfavorable report about the only two birthday celebrations mentioned in Scripture. Birthday celebrations were not a biblical practice among God's people.

What if the bribing of cake ended up in death? Would you still celebrate?

That's nice.
Now please present where where god or jesus said to NOT celebrate birthdays...

What if my aunt had balls?
Would that make her my uncle?

See how fun (and totally useless) "what if"s are?

What makes God happy, His rights ? People celebrate his Son's birth on earth on the wrong day, and on a day a false god was worshiped. Aren't false gods enemies of God ? They bring exchange gifts to each other. Is it really a gift if it is an exchange of purchases? God hates lies. Yet lies are told about Jesus birth even from the pulpit. Santa ends up being made the god of Christmas.

Is there anything superstitious about birthday customs to bring good luck?
What if one does not blow out all candles?

Did the Jewish people of that time celebrate birthdays ?

According to the History of the Christian Religion and Church during the first three centuries, Augustus Neander wrote that the notion of a birthday festival was far from the ideas of the Christians of this period in general.

The Imperial Bible-Dictionary by a Patrick Fairbairn mentions the Hebrews looked on the birthday celebration as part of idolatrous worship.....

From a magazine supplement of Schwabische Zeitung mentions down to the 4th century Christianity rejected birthday celebrations as a pagan custom.
In Scripture the only two Birthdays are mentioned and both are of pagans.

all of that and not one single verse?
Perhaps you misunderstand the question:
please present where where GOD OR JESUS said to NOT celebrate birthdays...

How can my gods be the enemy of a being that doesn't exist. They are far from false, maybe you should check yourself.
Another funny thing, you seem to speak for this so-called god, I thought it hated that to(funny).
It doesn't matter if one bought or made the gift, it about the thought that went into it, and the meaning behind it.
Maybe you should learn a little something about what you speak of.

According to Scripture Jesus believed his God was the true God.
The ancient religious Canaanites gifted some of their children to their god.
Deuteronomy 18:10; 12:31
Didn't thought go into that? Surely wasn't there meaning behind burning their children?
