There are no mistakes in Quran

Ex Muslim

Member
Quran does not claim to be a book of science, it is for guidance of the humans toward the path that leads to G-d. It guides one in ethical, moral and spiritual matters.
Regards

Is this an admission that there is a mistake in the Quran?

If it's from G-d then it doesn't matter what it claims to be, it must get its basic biology right.

This is just one example of the many errors in the Quran, and it is enough to prove it's not from G-d.

What to speak of the living things, even the non-animate things have been described by science in pairs/family terms.

1. "Family Of The Sun" - The Planets of Our Solar System in Song

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

2. " It is much more common for pairs of planets to have orbital period ratios a few percent larger than a mean-motion resonance ratio than a few percent smaller (particularly in the case of first order resonances, in which the integers in the ratio differ by one).[27] This was predicted to be true in cases where tidal interactions with the star are significant.[33]"

The Quran says:

1) all things are created in pairs
2) the sun sets in water on the Earth.
3) stars are missiles against Devils
4) mountains were put in place to stop the Earth from shaking.
5) the Earth is spread out like a carpet.
6) the Earth was created before the heavens
7) the sun runs to a resting place

I'd say they were pretty major errors, what's more is they are all in line with the scientific knowledge of the time, more proof the Quran was written by men.
  1. Did one read Quran from cover to cover?
  2. Did the above questions/objections got into one's mind while reading Quran naturally when one was a Muslim?
  3. Did one copied the above question/objection from an Anti-Islam website ?

Wait, so you're now retracting your original position that the Koran had scientific miracles in it and had no errors in it?

1. Pairs
We constructed the universe with might, and We are expanding it. The earth We furnished; We are fine Providers. From everything We created a pair, perhaps you may remember. So turn towards God. I am to you from Him a clear warner. 51:47 - 50 Quran.

What really is the problem there? It says the universe is expanding and that everything was created in pairs. We know that the universe is expanding, also we know that there are pairs of everything. Maybe you understood pairs as two (2). Thats not exactly true. It is Zawj, Azwaja. Means a pair like a couple. Male and female or married. Stones get married, but you understand what I say. There are other verses that refer to plants specifically. We know that plants are male and female.

2. Sunset.

Is it because the verse says "Setting of the Sun" that you have a problem with? It does not say the Sun sets in water. It says that he reached the Sunset, then he reached the Sunrise a couple of verses later. Have you heard of the evening prayer that Muslims generally refer to? Maghrib. This is the same. l Maghribi is the west.

Whats said is that he went hither and thither.

3. Stars are missiles against devils

See, the Quran does not say missiles. Nor does it say that stars are thworn. I believe Yusuf Ali translated it that way. There is no way.

The Quran has As-Shaythan and Shaythan. Shaithan could mean Astray. The verses you refer to talk about Rebellious Shaithanin.

Kawkab has been translated as stars or planets. At the outset of the verse, it does not have any issue. "We have adorned the lower heaven with the decoration of planets" and next verse simply says "And to guard against every rebellious Shaithanin (Astray)".

4. Mountains act as pins that two plates of the earth together. But I would like to know what your idea about this is for you to cite this.

5. Where does it say carpet? It says spread out. Like an expanse. I know that some did translate Mahdan as Carpet. Thta is without considering the Quranic Arabic, it means bed or resting place, With streets. Water from the sky.

6. Earth or heaven?

The Quran does not give a chronological order of creation in the verses you are referring to. They are separate events.

7. The sun travels.

It does. What do you take as wrong in this if you dont mind me asking?

Generally we hear a lot of people say "Your scholar", "This translation" etc. But you have intellect, so just try and make an analysis by yourself. Logically.

Cheers.

The problem with Islam (note the issue isn't unique to that religion) is that there is no authority to the interpretation of the scriptures so basically any Imam can translate how they so choose and those that follow him will believe. This is one of the things that I love about the Catholic Church in that the Church is the authority and priest are not given the interpret scripture as they see fit as they must follow the teaching magisterium of the Church (note some priest do so anyway but they in are in error).

I've been reading this thread and no one has come up with a single mistake. Wow.
What is more telling is that no self respecting Muslim will ever admit that there is an error in the Qur'an even though the book is riddled with contradictions and misunderstanding.

What are they?
Must we go through this canard yet again? Anything I say, you will dispute. I will admit that your explanation of "the expanse" was truly hilarious. Yep... it meant spreading out, but not like a flat carpet...

Alright. Good explanation.

Not really 'wow', more 'language is often very flexible - no surprise there'.
It's more like chasing shadows and shadows of shadows. The moment you think you have it... the goal posts get moved... for a myriad of reasons.

I see a number with your interpretation in the previous post

1. The word does not meaning expanding as active but past tense. Also there are organisms which require no pairs.

2. Dependent upon 1 being correct but since 1 is false 2 is also false. It does say the sun set in a muddy pool as each case of something being found in the quran was a true statement not the appearance of but not real.

3. There a multiple translation showing that people thought there were missiles, a thrown object.

http://quran.com/67/5#

4. Mountains do not hold the plates of the earth together. Most mountains are the result of these plates pushing against each other. You seem to have no idea how most mountains are formed.

When did I say that Quran is a text book of science? Please quote from me.

Ugh, don't make me crawl through hundreds of pages of conversation. I'm sure you were firmly on the "scientific miracles in the Koran/no errors in Koran" team. We've had so many debates about it.

True, when literal.
False, when allegorical. Such as a sweet mind won't mix with a bitter mind. Something new or different, not previously known won't mix with something old and preserved. In mind.
Sweet minds and bitter minds are clearly allegorical. Fresh water and salt water are clearly factual.

2. Dependent upon 1 being correct but since 1 is false 2 is also false. It does say the sun set in a muddy pool as each case of something being found in the quran was a true statement not the appearance of but not real.

1. The word is Lamoosioona. Wa inna Lamoosioona means we are expanding it or we are definitely the expanders. The emphasis implies definite/steady nature to the word. Its an 'active participle', I am no English grammar expert so I dont know how to explain in your words. e.g. To walk is Maashi, walking is Maashyiin, active participle. The past tense is a few words later Farashnaaha. If you dont know Arabic dont just say things like this. Why dont you with humility say that you found an answer on the web?

Are you talking about Parthenogenesis? That doesnt mean there is no female of that species.

2. Again,
Is it because the verse says "Setting of the Sun" that you have a problem with? It does not say the Sun sets in water. It says that he reached the Sunset, then he reached the Sunrise a couple of verses later. Have you heard of the evening prayer that Muslims generally refer to? Maghrib. This is the same. l Maghribi is the west.

Whats said is that he went hither and thither.

3. I know there are some translations that implies a thrown object, there are various reasons they had done that. The link you provided leads to 67:5 which says missiles.

And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

Its Bimasabiha, lamps or lights. Like Subhu which is Morning. Stars are Najm or rather Najmi. What is thrown is Rajm. Rajm the famous word used for stoning. This means repel, pelt, reject, expell.

If you analyse, this is talking of lower skys that repel whats astray (lishshayatheena). It could very well be talking about the ozone layer that burns astray debris that enters the earths atmosphere. That could be the punishment of the Blaze cited here.

When you translate something with a paganised, magic, big devils, little devils, hoodoo, woodoo, curses, Hercules, Zues, Karuppayya, etc in your mind you will look for it those things. If you are scientific in your mind you will look for that. So you can argue both ways. It depends on you, if its just a sentence. But the Quran tells me not to walk blindly, and to analyse every piece of information I get.

4. Yes. Mountains are the result of convergence of plates. Thats why the HImalayas is still getting taller. How does that negate the plates being stabilised because of the restraint created by the attachment. That attachment IS the mountain.

Peace.
