Tim Walz to be VP

Last night I was watching MSNBC and the pundits were all quite certain they knew who the VP candidate should be. Shapiro of course! And for all these good reasons. I said to my SO, I so hope she picks someone else, not because I have anything against Shapiro or any of the possibilities, it's just that these guys are so smug, so sure they know best. I woke up this morning, read the news on my phone and grinned all over my face.

More seriously, she will have to contend with the often unconscious male superiority that we men have, throughout the campaign and later (please!) as President. There will be times when she will need to say "jump" and have others respond "how high?". She has to establish herself as the boss in ways that a man doesn't have to, and maybe this is a good start.

I follow Jess Piper on Substack. Here's her take this morning:

Walz is so perfect for the job of VP. He’s a rural progressive. He’s my people. A dirt road Democrat. He’s a liberal guy who lives among conservative folks. He’s a veteran, a teacher, a lawmaker, and a dad. Walz can speak to Republicans and can likely help pull in Independent votes.
He can show up to an event in a tee and a hat and a Carhart jacket and not look like he’s trying to be something he isn’t.
Walz is the guy who could install your gutters and snake your drain and patch a hole in your drywall. He can also sign a bill into law to feed every kid in your state breakfast and lunch for free. How can you not love the guy?
Here are just a few of his education and child-centered accomplishments:

The View from Rural Missouri by Jess Piper

My name is Jess and I was a high school Literature teacher for 16 years until I decided to run as a Democrat in a rural, red district in Missouri. I bring you news and politics from Missouri and beyond from a rural progressive point of view.

Meanwhile ...

The New Republic, noting that Trump Is Already Losing It ..., quotes Trump:

“He’ll unleash HELL ON EARTH and open our borders to the worst criminals imaginable,” the email read. “He’ll rubber stamp Kamla’s [sic] GREEN NEW SCAM and light TRILLIONS of dollars on fire. But the real killer: he’s already pulled in MILLIONS in dirty cash to buy the White House!”

Apparently, if we are to take Trump's tirade seriously, we are faced with

DEI Harris & HELL ON EARTH Walz versus MAGA/Project-2025 and a Weird Guy. Whatever should we do?
Trump is in deep doodoo, he is up against a situation he can't fire someone or sue them which only leaves denigrating them in his attack arsenal.

That strategy just got "trumped" by the word weird and it is obvious he has no real platform but project 2025 for his base.

Well probably if he's not plastered drunk or something, and likely will freeze on making any decisions under pressure. Took him three days to call the national guard during the BLM riots causing wanton destruction across St Paul and Minneapolis.
Thank you for that clearly very level-headed and reasonable take on the issue.

UAW Enthusiastically Backs Tim Walz for Vice President
Walz, like Biden, joined with striking UAW workers on the picket line

And before she picked her VP the UAW said...

"Washington — United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain says Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are the union's top two picks for Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, though he noted that the decision is hers to make."

I won't let anyone dupe me.
Especially those who tell me that it is a coincidence that Biden withdrew few days after the Trump's attempted murder.
;)
So what is it you are trying to say?

If the attempt had been successful do you think Biden still would have withdrawn?

The man is indecisive , freezes under pressure. and he's likely going to get people killed.

He also has a criminal DUI record.

Uh-oh. This could be bad. Republicans could never vote for someone with a criminal record, them being tough on crime and all. Apparently, Walz pled guilty in 1995 to reckless driving. The DUI charge was dropped. Stealing classified documents, sexually molesting women, committing financial fraud, election interference--those pale in comparison to a DUI charge that didn't stick. o_O

No...what I am saying is that the Democratic Party thought that Biden was not the right candidate, after that.
Many of them thought that and voiced Biden should drop out after the debate two weeks prior to the assassination attempt.

The pressure kept mounting from donors, friends and colleagues and finally came to a head 24 days later and Biden dropped out.

Now if there hadn't been calls for him to drop out prior to the assassination attempt it might seem a little fishy.
