Top Muslim Clerics in Canada Issue Fatwa Denouncing Terrorism

I can't understand why they keep stating terrorists who attack "America" or "Canada".. as opposed to any country or any people. I don't even think Canada has had a terrorist attack either?.. Strange.

I thought this comment summed it up rather well.
Wow…like it only took them 9 years and 14,500+ deadly attacks for them to FINALLY speak up.
Aside from this, I lived in Vancouver for 52 1/2 years and can vouch for the fact that the publication this came out in, the Vancouverite, is a local free rag, of little importance - much like the fatwa itself. It was interesting to see that most of the supporters were from "Cow town" (Calgary).

well i think any Islamic denouncement of terrorism is a good thing, wherever it comes from. trouble is who is going to take any notice , i mean its not as if anyones in charge of Islam is it? there is no real authority an Imam means different things to Shia and Sunni. and any Muslim intent on reaking Havoc will just declare those Imams as outside of Islam for helping the great Satan.

Muslims will tell you there's a billion Muslims in the world , but in reality its broken and fragmented into sects.every body claims the truth and all the others are wrong . no one has any authority. and of course thers always the "Its nothing to do with Islam" argument.

Great article. Rather than dismissive ridicule, these folks deserve our appreciation and respect.

Funny you should say that. Just yesterday was the first court date for the first of the "Toronto 18". They were a group planning to envoke jihad by blowing up a bunch of public sites in Ontario, but an informant ratted them out (thank goodness) to the RCMP.

"On the night following the arrests, the Rexdale, Toronto mosque was vandalized, as windows were smashed across the building as well as the cars in the parking lot.[43] Similar vandalism was reported at a mosque in Etobicoke.[44]."

=[ Bad response.

I wasn't familiar with this at all. Then again we don't get much news about Canada.

The most puzzling for me was when a Hindu temple in Hamilton, Ontario was vandalized after 9-11.

Some people just have no clue. Twice.

I keep forgetting! I do owe these people a public "congratulations" for speaking out againt terrorism. I have criticized non-terrorist muslims in the past for not being more vocal about the problem, so recognition is due here.

Getting moderates of any religion to speak out against immoderation is like pulling teeth. You don't see more than a handful of moderate Mulisms speaking out against extremism for the same reason you don't see more than a handful of moderate Christians speaking out against Fred Phelps and the Aryan Nation. Moderates by their very nature respond moderately.

Since when has Canada been the leader in world issues? :D I guess since the rest of the world, middle east, and the American Islamic communities are mainly silent on the subject.

Go Canada!

It wasn't just covered in the Vancouverite. The National Post and the Canadian Press wire service also covered it, among many others.
