TotD: Was the serpent in Genesis Satan?

No. I haven't believed in ages that the serpent was symbolic for Satan. It is all about the loss of innocence of humankind: There had to be a time when humankind first had sentience.

We all, each of us, have that point: When we are tiny children we know nothing about death and disobedience- but we learn it (that is for the average people- some people are handicapped in some way with autism, etc). We all learn it. I think that could be what the story represents, but I really don't know for sure.

It's not 12/5/2012 but i felt this thread was interesting, it was found, What it? do you ask? - It as in this forum was found- -- on the first page of Religious debates page on this site. So you were talking about what we think if the snake of Eden was Satan.. of course... it even says that in Scripture.

Interested to see what the different views are on the Eden story in Genesis and whether you believe that the serpent was Satan, and why/why not...

Me:
Much like the word Lucifer, the word satan is used as a title, not a name.

That's very. . . . traditional. :D

It is also a practical application.

So the topic will flow lets say the characters of this topic are real....
set aside the denial.

God made Man.
The angels are real.
God set the the angels to service to assist Man.
One third said nay...a fight broke out.

Two thirds of heaven lost their brothers over an argument about something that looks like....you.
One third of heaven lost thier positions because of an argument over something that looks like.... you.
That's the story I got.

The story of Genesis chapter two...is about an adversary that desires to see you fail.

If there is heaven...it is a place closer to God.
If there is hell...it is a place of denial....of God and each other.

This world is the place where your direction becomes fixed.

So everyone should follow mythology and make certain there is no objection that would place it in the catagory of mythology as well.

Thats not a debate, its preaching.:clap

Nice little rant.
What does it have to do with Satan, Lucifer and or the Serpent?

I think The Serpent was just a serpent, the craftiest of all creatures and the only advocate of reason in the ol' B I B L E.

The moral of the story: critical thinking = bad, blind obedience to authority=good.

The scary part for most people? The Serpent was right all along!!! Dun dun duuuuunnnn

And if you read the 'rant' (post27)...what portion do you disagree with?

Nothing stands between you and heaven?
No objection to your presence there?

Mind translating that?

We are discussing identity.
Choose any name you care to....
An Advesary by any name, stands between you and heaven.

I don't believe in mythology.

A lack of faith in a religious debate?.....functional?
I don't think so.

No, we were discussing whether the serpent in Genesis is The Satan.
YOU went off into left field with your preaching.

Choose any name you care to....
Thanky ou for your permission.

Ah, more preaching.
I would ask you to prove it, but I know you will only reply with your "faith needs no proof" mantra which shows you are merely preaching.

One wonders if you are able to get on topic and stop trying to hijack this thread into another of your preach-fests?

Some participants seem at a lost to see a story with terms of metaphor as a story that also contains truth.

Genesis is not a non-event.
Man had a beginning.

That spiritual life is at odds when the event unfolds is conceivable.

Disbelief in spiritual life does not assist this topic.

Why would I rely on your "interpretation" of scripture when you can't even give a straight answer the question in the OP?
