That was a fair point that Trump made, and I think that reporters will be pressing her on that in the coming weeks. In fact, the Biden administration took in more tariff revenue than Trump did, although it did not keep all of his tariffs. Basically, they reduced tariffs on Europe and used them strategically against China in order to help homegrown manufacturing industries expand and compete. China has been engaging in unfair trade practices, so some of the tariff activity was in retaliation. However, others were taken for national security reasons--to reduce dependencies on Chinese imports in semiconductors, EVs, solar, etc.
As has already been noted, Trump has lied about who pays for the tariffs. American consumers do, and tariffs need to be counted as raising taxes on Americans, whether Trump, Biden, or Harris levies them. I think that they raised taxes by somewhere around $660 per family per year over the past several years.

She never claimed that everything would go up, but imports are such a huge part of our economy it would be hard to tell from a sales tax in about 90% of the cases. There is no sales tax on food in my state. And we do not get much liquor or beer from China. Those do get sales tax. But almost everything else asides from automobiles it seems that they are imported, and about half of the automobiles too.
If she opposes tariffs, then call them that, & explain the problem.
To lie that they're a "national sales tax" is mischievous.
BTW, a national sales tax implemented with a UBI & possibly
reduced income tax could be a winner. But Harris just killed
that possibility with her glib dishonest pandering.

Okay, we are going to have to disagree on this one. As you know the average American is not very well educated on what tariffs are. Harris needed a simple concept that people could understand to counter the outright lies of Trump saying that other countries pay the tariffs. He has to know that is false. Or perhaps his dementia is even more advanced than we realize. The taxes are paid by the importing company and they are not going to eat it.

There are a number of members who have ramped up their absurd rhetoric, and in essence derail any rational discourse. In the last few weeks I've noticed the discussions have been rampant with MAGA rhetoric and conspiracy theories to a degree that it's constant work to fact check and corect false claims. There's one member who derails most every political discussion with constant conspiracy theory nonsense.
She calls them a "Trump sales tax", being careful to point out the extra cost to consumers is Trump's fault. The extra money goes to the government, just like federal taxes.
