Trump ordered to pay nearly 355 million in NY fraud case.

The same way SZ knows that the strongest case is being overseen by a "pro Trump judge".

I wouldn't have put it that way, but it is an opinion even many Republicans have been concerned about.

You mean make America great again? Yeah, that's terrible, I know.

So, it doesn't bother you that Trump said he would be "dictator on day 1", if elected? Do you have a death wish for our representative democracy?

Since he was clearly saying it to rile up the opposition (which is all-too-easy), I have no problem with it at all. It's effective.

That sounds like a very convenient excuse for depravity and dictatorship.

If you actually watched it, one should easily notice that Hannity was rather taken aback by Trump's words. And have you ever heard any other candidate, past or present, make such a comment even if it's just for some pathetic piece of fun?

Seems to me you embrace such depravity and authoritarianism, so maybe you and Trump can join Putin in a manage de troi relationship. Sorry if I don't watch. o_O

What you call depravity and dictatorship is actually sarcasm and humor.
It takes a sense of humor to appreciate it.

Hannity certainly didn't think so, so do you have some miraculous powers that can tell exactly what was on Trump's mind when he spewed this out? If you would stop kissing Trump's Big Mac butt maybe you could see things better.

Hannity isn't my filter. I saw the video clip you're talking about.

Laniakea's response is a perfect example of how Trump partisans have long dismissed anything that Trump says--his threats, his lies, his blatant bigotry and racism. They frame it as language not meant to be taken literally. The problem is that there is also a large number of MAGA zealots who do take his "sarcasm and humor" literally and proceed to act on it. That's why we now see bodyguards appearing around judges, prosecutors, politicians, and other targets of his "humor".

Trump has no sense of humor.

But the good news is that on the 15th Trump's criminal trial starts. Trump has been desperately filing motions trying to delay this trial But they are so weak that the last few have been immediately slapped down and no delay to the trial was even considered. He has tried to get the judge to have the judge recuse himself. No dice. He has tried to change venue, but he cannot come up with a good reason.

And most recently:

Gag order:

"A New York appeals court judge Tuesday rejected Donald Trump’s latest attempt to delay his hush money criminal trial, taking just 12 minutes to swat aside an argument that it should be postponed while the former president fights a gag order.

Justice Cynthia Kern’s ruling was the second time in as many days that the state’s mid-level appeals court refused to postpone the trial, set to begin next week, further narrowing any plausible path to the delay that Trump’s legal team has repeatedly sought."

Twelve minutes!! That has to be close to a record. And I cannot even remember what nonsense was denied yesterday. Trump is getting desperate.

Far, far too many make excuses for his words, proclaim he was misunderstood, his quotes taken out of context, etc.

This country needs to uphold Honor, and that starts by being able to believe what our leaders say.

I try to play it safe and believe Trump means what he says. I've listened to his personal philosophy since the late 1970s, and he hasn't changed. Not in anything except political party/position in order to get the public's attention -- so he must be speaking his truth. Therefore he's a potential national disaster beyond imagination.

I remember long ago when the Trump crowd was all about "He means what he says"

That is, until he suggested someone kill his opponent

I moved to New York in 1973 and became familiar with his corrupt antics and racism in that decade. His family had tight connection with the Democratic machine in the five boroughs and the Abe Beam administration, so that they could get special treatment for their real estate empire. However, he officially switched to the Republican Party when Rudy Giuliani became the mayor. They became very close buddies. That was when E. Jean Carroll was raped by him in the clothing try-on room of a Bergdorf Goodman store. She said she didn't try to report the crime to the authorities, because she knew of his political connections and didn't think she would be dealt with honestly by the police and prosecutors. He was also known from the 70s thru the 90s to call up reporters and pretend to be a "John Barron" or "John Miller" who was supposedly his own "publicist". Then he would brag about his popularity with women and other matters that he wanted to have printed in the press. He has always been a weird clown of a man, but his earlier antics were pretty much forgotten after he managed to remake his image as a TV celebrity, after he had cratered his family fortune on bad casino purchases that led to six bankruptcy proceedings.

I remember much of that. I see an old sitcom from the 80s every now and then, that has written his name into the script as the buffoon he was. His second ex-wife has a cameo role on an episode of Designing Women. She got out of that relationship pretty quick and it looks like she's reined their daughter back in since the last campaign trail.

I watched the first season of The Apprentice, and by the end I had notice he was still a buffoon, even with someone else writing his lines. I also noticed the furst season's winner hit the publicity trail hard and fast, then disappeared just as quickly. I wonder how Bill's career fared?

But regardless of the laughs from years gone by (I always remember his professional wrestling debut!), now this big ole buffoon just isn't amusing anymore.

I remember that he became a household name in the 1980s, lauded as some kind of symbolic hero in the resurgence of capitalism brought on by the Reagan Revolution. Reagan and his ilk presided over the shifting of America from an era of enlightenment to an era of mercenary amorality (which we're still in today), and even the Democrats went along with that. Trump was the media's darling during the 80s, 90s, and 00s. He is their monster which got out of control.

Oh, come on! That's just Donald being Donald.
If it's ok for Joe to be Joe, then why not show equality when dealing with the opposing team?

Perhaps we can start with presidents who grandstand on the deaths of 6 workers who died on the Baltimore bridge, claiming he had taken the train across that bridge many times. Never mind the fact that trains never used that bridge--ever.
But Joe lies. That's just Joe being Joe. So he gets a pass.

Perhaps you've never accidentally mis-spoken. Good for you. You have a human experience to look forward to. I've unfortunately done it many times with no appropriate way to suck the words back in. And I don't have a speech impediment to juggle. However, there's a HUGE difference between a little mis-speak and intentional, malicious, galvanizing lying.

And why in this world would you call it grandstanding on unfortunate deaths for the current President to make a visit to a disaster site? It's called caring, actionable empathy, and in this instance patriotic. This disaster occurred where the National Anthem was inspired and written. So though a President, ANY President, cannot visit every disaster location in our country, making a respectable appearance of solidarity, where the necessary security measures puts no one at risk, is traditionally a part of the job.
