What are the Odds there's a God?

I don't think it's possible to answer that question. What are the odds that YOU exist?
Not very good in my opinion.

But I will say the same thing about myself that I said about “God” in this thread.

If I do exist then the odds are very good that I am very odd.

For some reason, I can't frubal you!

Hmmm, it seems that I have already posted in this thread, and so I will proceed to do so again. I like to use this analogy.

How do I know that your brain exists? How do I know that your heart is in the right place? I personally cannot see it, yet if I put my hand upon your chest, or feel your pulse, I can sense it. I know that God exists because I have conciously set out to find Him, and I believe that I have felt Him, and feel Him whenever I need Him.

How do you know when someone is in the early stages of pregnancy? You cannot see it straight away, yet the pregnant female (or male it now seems) can feel it within themelves. Is it not the same with the Holy Spirit? If you can find the strength to stand up in front of a crowd and argue for your beliefs, is that not proof enough of God's divine strength?

This argument is kind of pointless in the respect that people will always disbelieve that God exists, so you will always have the constant stream of atheists posting about the non-existence of God.

Just thought I'd say that.

That's BS

We know our brain and heart exists because:

A: It is needed to survive and we know this to be true through science
B: Science has developed X-ray machines to that we can actually see our brain to prove it's existence.

As for the pregnancy, most people don't know, or those that do have missed their menstral cycle or have felt a body change. It's not god, those are bad examples you provided.

If you were asked to describe your belief or disbelief in god in terms of odds, what odds would you ascribe to the possibility that god exists? One out of ten? Two out of ten? Something else?

Why did you estimate the odds as you did?

It depends - Is there just a single zero, or does the wheel have a double-zero as well? Does blackjack pay 1.5 times the bet? What's the rake on each pot?

might be a zero more or less

Greetings

The odds of God existing depends on what you mean by God.

The chance that a personal God exists is very low indeed.
The chance that an impersonal God exists is very low too
The chance that i'll win the lottery is very low indeed...
...But it can still happen

Personally my experiences have lead me to conclude that God does not exist (Out of 10^10 i'd say about 1 that it does) and that an interpersonal 'God' has a much higher possibility, although still way below coin-flipping probability. However, there is also a chance, based on what we can instinctively know as animals, that I am wrong.

Essentially, there is a change of a lot of things. However, the actual chance, as with everything, is either 0% or 100%, we just don't know which it is (yet?) :)

If god can be expressed as a probability less than 1(certainty), it is not doing a good job of communication.

This is an interesting question that I think is a set up for Pascal's wager, but I may be wrong and forgive me if I am. :)

Oddsmakers are pretty scientific people, you know. Making odds on a football game, for instance, requires deep study of the teams, their playing styles, the players, who's healthy and who's injured, etc. etc...

The problem with this question is that you are asking us to give odds on something that cannot be studied scientifically. So, I will answer this way:

The odds that there's a God are exactly the same as the odds that there are two Gods, or three or four. They are the same as the odds that a giant, invisible, flying spaghetti monster is following us all as we go about our day. THey are the same as the odds that gravity is really caused by invisbile Ryan Seacrest clones that pull everything toward the ground.
None of the above assertions can be proven or disproven, just like the assertion that there's an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent being up there. I would have to say the odds are unknown.

The same odds that I would use to describe the possibility that I exist.
That doesn't seem right. You are empirically observable. People can see that you exist. That is not the case with God. Why would the same odds be in place for your existence as would be in place for his?

It is all to do with having an 'open mind' if you ask me. Having a mind that is 'open to everything and attached to nothing' is getting more and more needed in todays world. Take me for example. I am only 15 years old, but I am more readily accepting of other religions, cultures and general change in my life and the world around me in comparison to my parents.

I used to be a Zen Buddhist, and I still agree with the views that they had on life. I am now rethinking my religion, to try and choose one that fits myself perfectly. You see, I can adapt to different ways of thinking. It just depends on how willing you are to believe that there is someone governing over your soul, as to whether you believe in God.
I am an atheist. Is your mind open to my world view?

Can "empirical" not be called into question? Is this (finally) the thing that we are to accept on faith?

I would have to say 10/10 because of experiences i have had as well as simply looking at the world and everything around us and the complexity of it. I see no room to say there isn't a God!

10 out a 10 odds, because otherwise I wouldn't be here, neiter would any of you be here, this earth wouldn't be here, this universe wouldn't be here and neither would all the infinite amount of universes out there.
