Time to bring this one back to the top.

Dinner tonight was one of our recently processed roosters in a stew with carrots and potatoes from the garden, paired with challah (Jewish egg bread) made with honey from a neighbor's bee hive and eggs from our chicks. About the only thing that was store bought was the flour and the salt.

Was quite delicious.

Oh, that DOES sound delicious!

Bacon and tomato salad with fresh greens, and with Caesar's salad dressing. So very parmesan-y.

Oh, and I couldn't help but add an avocado to it. It's flippin awesome.

I'm eating goat a lot lately. I decided to shop for meat at my local halal butcher instead of the supermarket. Much better meat, and cheaper too.

I love goat curry, with lots of fresh chilli, lemongrass, thyme, sumac, worcestershire sauce and lemon juice. Slow-cooked with potato. Yum.

The best quality meat in Australia, according to the halal butcher, is goat, kangaroo and camel. I haven't tried camel yet, apparently it's very good. Australia has more camels than any country in the world, they run wild in the desert (which is most of Australia).

Haven't tried camel. In fact, I'd never thought of it (not that they're in abundance here in the US Midwest).

But now that I'm on a tangent.....ostrich is super-AMAZING-delicious. :)

Oh. Forgot to mention.

I just finished some apple slices with almond butter. It has become my favorite nighttime snack. For now, that is.

Mmm. Just scoffed a late breakfast of poached eggs on wholemeal toast.

Eggs are without a doubt my favourite single food item. Most every day of my life begins with butter-fried eggs on toast and fried tomato. Occasionally I vary it with poached or soft-boiled. At one time I was regularly eating 6 eggs per day - my cholesterol was fine, low end of normal. Eggs are the best source of complete protein.

And there's custard (and custard tarts), egg-flips (smoothies with egg and milk, and a little vanilla and honey) and bread and butter pudding ....

Just add wheat grass juice for greens (with every vitamin known !) and you pretty much could live on them. Happily.

You could share the wheat with the chickens, and Bob's your uncle.

Lasagna

I haven't had lasagna in too many years to count. I'd forgotten completely what it tasted like. I honestly don't think I've had it since I was a kid. What have I been thinking???

I only care about lasagna with lots of grated cheese all over it. :angel2:

My wife is making a vegetarian lasagna with plenty of cheese for the pot luck dinner tonight to welcome our new rabbi to the community. I can't wait to see what everyone else is bringing.
