Not yet it's not.

They've been trying to shut it down for two years now and still it lives on with shows still playing there weekly.
No, the last show was October 15th. It's over. Hilly says that he will reopen elsewhere but it won't be in the Bowery.

I'd like to be burned to a crisp and then scattered amongst the forrests of Oregon from a small airplane.

If there is a memorial for me I'd like it to be just family and a few of my closest friends. Afterwards I'd like for them all to get smashed and tell their funniest stories of me involved their lives. And then of course cry their eyes out that I'm gone. :)

Ideally, cryopreservation.

Second best: ashes sent into space

Third best: ashes preserved in a container on Earth

I'm just curious; for the people who answered cryopreservation, why? What's the point of preserving a dead body?

For future reanimation once the currently unavailable technology exists to make this possible. If the technology progresses far enough, this could be a chance at a greatly extended life. Naturally, it is people who don't believe in life after death who consider this option.

And if you died at the age of ninety, suffering from severe arthritis, edema, and ultimately heart failure, would you still want this body preserved to be "reanimated"?

LOL, great point! Sort of the extended body length version of viagra? It's not like you'd be young again.

That depends. Is there an anti-aging cream? Is there a pill that fixes my arthritis? and on and on.

No.

As Buttercup said, viagra may address one of the ailments associated with aging but it doesn't make one young again. And there may be treatments for all these conditions but they are treatments, usually coming with side effects, not cures. There is no "cure" for age. Getting old is not a disease. It's a natural part of life. Death is a natural part of life.

People are born. We live. We die. Some of us get more years than others but in then end we end up in the same place. Why is that so scary?

Probably not, unless the technology were to exist that could clone a younger body and imprint one's personality on the brain.

Why does everyone want to live forever? This place sucks.

i second that. living is good, but there's some people i'd love to see again someday.

no thousand years of good health and /or awesome sex could ever take the place of that.

That is how they buried the main character (Nate) on Six Feet Under, they called it a "green" funeral. And it was also how he buried his wife earlier, all by himself.

It was pretty disturbing and emotional to watch, down to earth and gritty so to speak.

I don't want to live forever, but I don't believe this place sucks. The brevity of life is part of its beauty. Certainly there are aspects of this world that need fixing that we should devote the time we have to fixing... though I stray off topic. :)

Thanks for the information on Green funerals. I am going to keep a signed note with my burial wishes with my will, and it will come in handy.

I want to be cremated. It's cheaper. In my country they celebrated by throwing a big party with music, food and gambling. No tears. Just fun.
