I was addressing a particular blanket statement about Islamic countries; I do think there are huge problems that women face in Egypt, as is the case in other Islamic countries. Being forced to cover in black or sit at home isn't one of them, though (in Egypt's case)--at least not for the majority.

I'm not sure about the exact percentage of women who undergo FGM in Egypt, but the practice is widely accepted in certain parts of the country (especially non-urban parts). It's pretty unfortunate that such a disgustingly misogynistic practice still persists so much.

How do Islamic countries view atheists? I heard that some countries consider us terrorists which is sad. Limitations on alcohol wouldn't bother me. I think there's too much of alcohol and recreational drug use in popular culture to be honest.

Dubai is hardly the beacon of Islamic enlightenment some claim it is. Premarital sex can get you jailed there, and "practicing homosexuality" is a crime. It also has blasphemy laws like other Muslim-majority countries.

Those are just laws, things the government don't want people to do as part of the system. Those laws are also there not to exact punishment on people, they are there to prevent people from breaking the identity Dubai wants to keep. It is not like Dubai hunts for non Muslims and demonize them, which is what matters, I believe. I guess every country wants people to follow their laws while staying in it.

But I share your sentiment about the blasphemy punishment. Religion is a choice. Having it as a law is just too much.

Not true. It's not about being atheist or not. Some countries just have issues with some other countries for political reasons. Some just happen to be atheists so the government rather than saying they have political issues, they will make a propaganda against atheism or the West in general to assume fake leadership and zeal in front of their supporters.

-All kinds of alcohol use is forbidden

-Premarital sex is forbidden

-Women should cover themselves from head to toe

-You cannot talk about and practice anthing not compatible with islam such as athesim , evolution

What is not always mentioned is that 91% is not just Muslims. A very large number of Egyptian Non-Muslims are included in that figure. Actually the 91 is low more like 95% of all Egyptian women practice it.

Yet, as has already been mentioned before, FGM is practiced among Christian groups, e.g. in Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya.
