What is a "Christian"!?

My understanding IS.. "Christians believe the words of Jesus, Christians believe IN Jesus, All who believe the words of Jesus have ETERNAL LIFE!"

Christians have eternal life because they believe the scriptures..(ALL the scriptures)

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

My point... Some people say; "CAN'T lose salvation"!
Some people say; "You CAN lose salvation"! BOTH..
Both claim to be CHRISTIAN!! Clearly..
My QUESTION: Clearly one is WRONG, clearly one can't be Christian!!??

Some people say "Baptism saves"!
Some people say "Baptism does NOT save"!
Both claim to be CHRISTIAN.. One MUST be wrong!
One of the two can't be Christian!!

Religious debate...
Debate about WHAT/WHO is "Christians" and who is NOT!!
Am I wrong to think both CAN'T be christian!!??
Am I suppose to believe; CHRISTIANS do NOT have to accept the words of Jesus?????

Surely someone has a comment or answer!!!
>>>All who believe the words of Jesus have ETERNAL LIFE!"

This is to important a question to be ignored!!!
Could mean ETERNAL LIFE!

9-10ths_Penguin I think you will find your answer in Post #109!!

And you said this in post 109:

Reject the scriptures found in "A" Bible then you are NOT Christian!
Do you reject the Third Epistle to the Corinthians? It's found in "a" Bible: some Armenian Orthodox bibles.

The Catholic Church and every Protestant church that I've ever heard of rejects 3 Corinthians. Do you agree that they're not Christian?

The Greek word Χριστιανός (christianos)—meaning "follower of Christ"—comes from Χριστός (christos)—meaning "anointed one"[5]—with an adjectival ending borrowed from Latin to denote adhering to, or even belonging to, as in slave ownership.[6] In the Greek Septuagint, christos was used to translate the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Mašíaḥ, messiah), meaning "[one who is] anointed."[7] In other European languages, equivalent words to 'Christian' are likewise derived from the Greek, such as 'Chrétien' in French and 'Cristiano' in Spanish.

Hello sojourner I am not prepared to go deeper..
FACT: Scriptures are Jesus' teaching!!
By scriptures I mean; All works found in a BIBLE!!

All who believe IN Jesus.. All who have Faith IN Jesus... All who TRUST in Jesus are those people who believe his words! THESE....

These people are called Christian!

Dogknox
A bible? There are several. Which one?

And what do you mean by "believe in?"

Ok, the Bible's canon was set by the Roman Catholic church.
Why should another church accept the RCC's authority to set any canon/bar/hermeneutical tool?

First of all, there is no the canon. There are several canons. Second, there was no RCC in the 400s when the canon was mostly decided. The Church was the Church, and included Orthodox, Roman, Anglican, Copts, etc. There was no "another church" at that time. Therefore, no one except for Romans accepted their authority to set their canon.

The Old Testament is the words of Jesus!
No, it isn't. At least be honest about what the bible is.
The New Testament is the culmination of the Old!
No, it isn't.
Only the Scriptures found in the bible are INSPIRED!!!
I dispute that.
Sure there are other works but you can't be sure they are inspired!!
You can't be sure any of them are. It's a faith thing, supported by authenticity.
Look at the fact there are thousands and thousands of man made churches all claiming to believe the scriptures but not even two believe the same!
So? The texts, themselves, are multivalent.
You can't throw other works into the mix and claim these others are also to be believed as INSPIRED!!!
Sure we can. The canon isn't the be-all-end-all, nor was it intended to be.
The problem is already HUGE never mind claiming other books are the truly inspired words of Jesus!
The only words of Jesus are those that can be shown to be authentic quotations. even then, there's never complete accuracy.
ONLY the scriptures can be said to be inspired because only they do not contradict!
Of course they do! In many places.

You're making a lot of claims about the texts that simply are not supportable by scholarship. It skews the premise of your argument.

My comments were made in reference to the Council of Trent, mid 1500's. When there was a RCC and several doctrine were made by the RCC in response to the Protestant movement.

What's your point?
A Christian is someone who does not pass judgment upon others. One who lives to serve the better purpose of their fellow brothers and sisters.

NOPE ... Sole SCriptura is belief in Scriptures >>ALONE<<!
Martin Luther said.. "All we need is the scriptures, even a small child can interpret the scriptures rightly"!

Dogknox
And it's found nowhere in Scripture. That makes it extra-Scriptural, BY DEFINITION.

Funny how you forget the meaning of words when they become inconvenient.

Didn't Jesus say, "Judge not that ye be not judged?"
Katzpur lets get something straight... WHO....
Who is JUDGING!!!!!!!!?

I am saying; "It is the people who believe the scriptures that can claim the title; Christian"!

I judge no one!!!

I am saying if a person REJECTS the scriptures then the person is REJECTING Jesus! It is just this simple!!
LOGIC tells you I am right!!!

THINK: If you reject the constitution of the United States are you a true American!!?

Rejecting the beliefs of someone proves you do NOT believe as the person whose beliefs you reject!

Rejecting the beliefs of Hinduism PROVES without doubt; You are NOT Hindu!!!

Rejecting the words of Jesus proves the person rejects Jesus!!!:D
