What is the Left (politically)?

We need to end US wars, and cut military budget 50%.
We need a living wage.
We need free community colleges.
We need universal healthcare.
We need criminal justice reform (end qualified immunity, make cops pay for their own liability insurance, have a percentage of settlements and 100% of medical bills come from department budgets, have investigations continue and follow cops even if they quit or transfer)
We need to cut police spending.
We need to end the drug war.
We need rank choice voting.
We need to ban corporate lobbying.
We need term limits in Congress and Senate.
We need to ban private prisons.
  • End 1 war to start.
  • Living wage? Its a neat idea, but I don't think we can get that passed by government for a good long time.
  • Have 1 or 2 free national accredited community colleges, but don't make all of them free. Certainly make 1 or 2 that work over the internet and that other community colleges must compete against.
  • Some healthcare would be a good start, even if we cannot cover everything. How about we cover pregnancy and children's medicine up to age 12? If that works perhaps the country will become willing to rethink healthcare.
  • Criminal justice reform: I like most of those ideas.
  • Police spending -- I do not know much about this. I say that we should provide life insurance for the families if they die or are injured. Secondly we should offer police workers education credits after they have served 5 years, so if someone works as a police officer for 5 years they can then go to school for a while. Kind of like the GI bill. That should improve the force, get some new blood in there.
  • Rank Choice Voting Yes.
  • Corporate lobbying is going to happen. If you ban it you push it under the table more than it already is.
  • Term limits in Congress and Senate -- maybe. Its low priority compared to other things.
  • Prisons: give each prison inmate 1/2 of a vote. Currently they cannot vote. This will give them a voice without ceding control to them, and it will discourage having too many people in prison. States will no longer want more prisoners, because the prisoners will have part of a vote in that state.

MAGA Repubklicans led by Trump, yes.

Republicans are notoriously opposed to healthcare reform of any kind. They tried 72 times to repeal the ACA (ObamaCare). They failed. When Trump got in office and had a republican majority they created a new healthcare plan at the federal level, and it was so bad that even some republicans wouldn't vote for it.

Too late. Somehow you claim to be socialist but hate the one American party that is closest to your views. Yet you love republicans who don't want anything you champion. Quite odd.

No, states can't borrow money like the federal governmen can, and they don't have the resources to do it. That's especially true for poor states.

More claims with zero evidence = throw out what you say.
These are excuses.
The British had leftist governments that passed a law implementing universal healthcare .
Followed by many other Europeans, including us.

The excuses and the lies of the Democratic party make me throw up.
They are funded by the health insurance racket.
They DONT WANT TO PASS THE LAW.

What's your point? It doesn't redeem or absolve him.

It doesn't absolve him at all.
But he was a socialist...something the dems are not.
Maybe the dems of the sixties and the seventies were good.
But we are in the 21st century.

We've a lot of European members here. Let's ask some of them.
You know...when Europeans want something from the State, they take it.
They don't wait for Providence (it doesnt exist).
They are disposed to be killed by the State.

Most democrats want universal healthcare for the USA. Fact.

What law? There's no such pending legislation. Republicans would be against it if it did exist, and it would surely be a democrat bill. So, more of your irrational, non-fcatual, nonsense.

Explain me why many Europeans passed this law...even the countries that you guys call "far-right".

Universal healthcare is a socially sound thing to do. The USA is different due to a different set of traditions, and an indifference to poor people. The USA seems to be moving that way, but MAGA is a social sickness that is in the way.

what do you mean by Left when you call yourself "a leftist"?

I think the world would be a better place if we all treated each other with decency, respect, inclusion and common sense. That's an ideal, of course, and I have no expectation of it happening in my lifetime.

I've been aware of global warming since the early 1970s and it's not just been a question of inertia but outright misinformation and sabotage by the vendors of oil, coal and gas. We were always going to get the bill for this; we're already getting it earlier than many expected. The younger you are, the bigger the bill will be, and the less of it will be down to anything you did. That's not the only aspect of the environment, of course. There are the forever chemicals, the destruction of the seas and the polar caps ─ all for real and coming soon to a tornado near you.

When I was in politics last century, among the many non-local issues only one of them was major, and we won that, though this century I see it's largely been given back. We got a lot done locally, waterways, nature reserves, historical and heritage works, that kind of thing. As we expected, it proved good for business too.

So that's the kind of leftie I am.

By global standards the dems are probably center right, but center right is closer to socialism than is the far right, which serves the elites at the expense of the common man. People like Trump and Musk were born into a class of privilege and affluence that only looks after itself and seeks to exploit and control the lower economic classes.

Well...the American media call PM Fico far right, but he is a socialist.

I would like to know what Musk has to do with politics.

I start to suspect that the problem here is that the alpha male is seen as an enemy...the white alpha male. Right?

The problem here is psychological. Not political.
Say it... if it is true. ;)

I think the traditions you might be referring to actually started in the 1980s, under Reagan. Prior to that, there was greater support for unions, along with greater sympathy for the poor and working classes. It was Reagan and his supporters who reversed decades of reform and social progress. MAGA is just the natural long-term consequence of the irresponsible and reckless policies we've had since the 1980s.
